Lucid Dream: Apocalypse how?
What I remembered first was the warmth. The warm sun, and a cool breeze that smelled slightly of the ocean. I was walking through a grove in what appeared to be a volcanic island overrun with lush jungle greenery. Into the clearing, I walked. I was greeted with the sight of people, wearing tattered clothes, building homes, roadways, bridges with bamboo technology. Near the clearing, I saw the 'city' proper - composed of treehouses and walkways strung across the stout branches of gigantic trees. The fertile black soil crunched under my boots as I made my way towards them. They smiled and waved, and I waved back.
However, something was very wrong. I'd go up to them and ask what were they doing, or where we are - and they'd stare at me like I was an idiot. "You were on the raft with us! How could you possibly forget?". Others were more rude. "Maybe the radiation fried your brains or something!". And some were even sympathetic. "I think the expedition leader's finally cracked. Let's not be harsh - you'd get your mind broken to see something like that and survive."
And this is how I spent what felt like hours. Searching for someone, anyone to tell me what happened. Slowly, I gathered what I needed to know; some sort of 'monster' or 'weapon' had obliterated the rest of the world's civilization centers - and we could very well be the last survivors. We were on an island around 300 miles from New Zealand. Whatever happened had altered the axis of the world - and our island was stuck in a permanent summer - with the occasional rainstorm.
Perhaps ignorance was bliss. Distraught, I tried to look for anyone I could recognize - and didn't succeed. Finally, giving up, I walked to one of the finished ocean overlook, climbed the tower and just sat there. I thought about my friends, where they could be right now, and I could not push these thoughts away. I just lay there, watching the clouds - too weakened from my search to move anymore.
That's when I noticed the large ship slowly moving past the overlook. Midnight black, and designed like a powerful battleship. On the bridge, I saw a familiar figure. Snapping out of my reverie as I saw her, I got up and leaned forward to have a closer look. No doubt about it - that was her wearing the captain's regalia on the bridge. She noticed me and gave me a wry smile. I waved and shouted "Hey Zwei!"
And that's how I woke up.
And now, a silver lining to end this depressing dream on a positive note: While I was searching, I saw two computer systems, powered by 6 people on stationary bicycles were switched on and connected - the first step to rebuilding the internet.
