The attempt to purchase CoH
there has been little attempt at all, not to say they haven't been trying just they are not getting anywhere.
the last message the negotiators hinted at was not a positive one, they are attempting to make it sound positive because they have not been told to cease trying.
the comment was "they can say no [forget the amount] number of times, but they only have to say yes once."
this tells me there is no deal, there was a NDA before the team entered negotiations with NCSoft and that's where NCSoft dropped them. they left them under NDA with absolutely no deals.
it's a typical corporate collector's approach. they want to collect things, in this case games, they don't want to sell even if the game does nothing for them because it's shutdown. so they have been politely shutting down buyers with 'no'.
at the same time, I say politely because they don't want to come across as a brash selfish corporation, so they are humoring the team trying to buy the game with no intent to sell.
the question now is whats the best way to either forcefully get the server image and spam it all over the net? or better yet, lets target their running games, you know 'hit them where it really hurts', hack their servers and get the game images of the currently most popular games from NCSoft, send them off to russian anon server hosts. that would ruin NCSoft. we also need to ruin netmarble, they do cellphone games, maybe a nice anti-touchscreen virus sent to all their players would suffice, you know a typical screen freezer. that would scare people away from netmarble and cripple NCSoft. then they'd have to make deals and sell everything off to save their sorry asses.

Re: The attempt to purchase CoH
Or you know Joshex....... accept that CoH is dead and put our hope in the developers of City of Titans? CoH was the first MMO I ever played and had loads of fun on there. But rather than going back to something they killed off, I want something new. Nostalgia is a way of remembrance, to try and build/rebuild on nostalgia alone is recipe for disaster. Besides, if CoT becomes as good or better than CoH then it's high time we got an updated engine anyways And it is done by former CoH players so I have high hopes. They're very open about it and have alot of stuff to show already. They'll probably be done 2017 sometime if I remember correctly. So hey Joshex...... dont do bad stuff because of nostlagia, let us old CoH veterans look to the future eh? Also, I hope they bring back the playable villians in a way. Those robot armies and such were badass.

I've thought long and hard about that route. even the game I'm making now matter how good it may be, can never truly replace what I want to get from CoH. even if it has the same sort fo elements, it's just not CoX. it makes me want to rescue the server at any cost. and now here we are. in this thread where I've listed an unlikely outcome, I for one am far too lazy to actually go ahead with my own plan. meh. pingas bingas mah jingas, pingas jingas mah mang. Welcome to the world of general spam. I forgot where I was going with this reply cause I'm too tired. oh yeah CoX == want

Re: The attempt to purchase CoH
New info?
I was told cohtitan has a quote "pw server" and that "this has been an interesting week" in response to my inquiry about paragon wiki 504ing a lot lately.
pw server could mean Pass Word server, OR Perfect World Entertainment Server, which would mean they are running a PWE game server of some sort, Please do note, City of heroes was originally developed by cryptic studios before it's sale to NCSoft, and at some point therein cryptic became/was a subsidiary of PWE.
could it be possible they are running or testing an old CoH server image? last I checked it'd be something like Issue 5.
or maybe it is just the abbreviation for password server.
I'm always hoping the game will return even as the world goes to shit and old friends probably aren't likely to return. heck some are dead. but still would bring back memories.

Re: The attempt to purchase CoH
silly me, pw server means paragon wiki server.
well there goes that.
ok the situation is that cryptic studios made the game and it's engine, they sold the rights to the game to NCSoft, but not the engine. NCSoft ran the game for 5 years, during which time Marvel wrongly accused NCSoft of intentionally allowing players to make clones of marvel super heroes, however all players know that such names or costumes that could be identified as Marvel or DC costumes would be nerfed (that is, set to factory default or randomized, and names like Wolverine would become GENERIC HERO#0000 0000 0000) which was meant to enforce copyright law to prevent such problems, however Marvel seemed willing to drag the lawsuit out to ruin NCSoft, NCSoft poorly defended themselves, in the end NCSoft made a deal out of court with Marvel (the terms of which are not public).
the game ran for a bit after that then when the game team had made what seemed to be final levels (allowing players to exceed level 50 with mechanisms that were not real levels) before they could finish NCSoft announced they must close the game down. NCSoft then denies several purchase attempts since then, the first one was denied because of 'unreasonable terms', the second one was denied flatly. there may have been other attempts.
many have assumed they are severe collectors who will not part with anything once they own it, others have suggested it's part of the settlement with Marvel, part of the settlement with marvel was leaked; we know they demanded Cryptic studios to develop Marvel Heroes Online for free as a punishment.
Others have suggested that cryptic studios might be the culprit that they failed to renew NCSoft's lease to the game engine. and that cryptic might be denying purchase attempts on similar grounds. (Cryptic studios also made a competitor called Champions Online).
after that there was an organized player attempt to purchase the title. that attempt is still supposedly going on, though we have heard close to nothing.
the last two things that were leaked to us are:
"the negotiations are ongoing in good faith"
"they can say no as many times as they want, but they only have to say yes once."
To which it sounds like they haven't actually engaged into real negotiations, NCSoft just directed them to the party who could sell and that party gave them the old string along "well maybe, but you need to sign an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) before we can proceed", then dropped them like a ton of rocks with "No we're not selling, but the NDA stays in effect so you can't say anything.".

Re: The attempt to purchase CoH
