Tutorial: basic things to consider while using the internet
This is being posted to spam cause I dont think it's good enough for tutorials section
computerUse supported operating system, keep your computer up to date.
dont use internet explorer(and if it's on your computer, keep it up to date as m$ intergrates it's shit with everything, even if you dont use it, you're vulnerble to its security flaws.)
If you're using mac or linux, remember you're not immune to hackers/viruses. keep your computer up to date with viruse scanner and firewall.
passwordsNever give out your password(s) to anyone
Dont use password save option in browsers, type your passwords in everytime
Clear cookies each time you log out
Use a unique password with each site, dont use the same password everywhere
CookiesCookies are used to store personal settings for websites. The facebook cookie is broadcast to any site with a like button. This is why it's a good idea to clear your cookies when your log out on facebook, or any site which uses your email. If you want to reduce spam delivered to your email box, clear your cookies everytime you log out somewhere and clear cookies everytime you close firefox. To clear your cookies everytime firefox closes, go to the tools menu, click options, and then press the privacy tab, on the first drop down list you see, click custom options and then select from there cookies and whatever else you want cleared each time it closes.
cacheFirefox starts to open slowly when there's a lot of cache. Cache is used to store images and what not of frequently browsed sites. If you have basic high speed internet or higher, you'd rather it download it each time. So you can have firefox automatically clear this, as does the cookies. That way everything loads snappy even on a netbook.
virusesUse discretion on what links you click on in a search engine. Make sure you know what you're clicking on. Exam the url for suspicious anything, read the description to make sure it's not by a bot.
Use a up to date viruse scanner with a real time sheild.
If you download a program, exam the filename and icon, sometimes viruses spoof themselves as legit free programs, if you downloaded the program before you'll know you have the wrong one if you know what to look for. It's too easy of a careless mistake to make.
Scan what you download
If you must look at porn, do it from a site that you know doesnt serve viruses
Some viruse scanners have a database of sites that are bad and will show it in your browser of course there are some sites they dont recognise and these programs eat up a lot of cpu time (if you're low on that)
Yes I know this guide sucks. Feel free to add to it.
