Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
The group of knights are silent as they follow her into the dark alleyways. Perhaps they were feeling a bit naked after what they saw - a man with his ribs smashed while wearing a solid iron breastplate. Suddenly, the bulky steel plate didn't feel to be much more. They kept a sharp eye out, hands on their scabbards.

Despite their outward calm and practiced knightly posture, it was impossible to hide the lust for battle in their eyes.

Ahead of this group, she walked. As she entered the alleyway, she closed her eyes to focus on a simply tracking spell... a simple mental trick to attune her senses to the pursuit of magical prey. She reached out, and then hesitated.

Something was very wrong here.

Much like the tracks of an animal, magical creatures would leave weak traces of their passage; not this creature. No, what stood out was that she something very, very different. As if she was staring into minute incisions made into the very fabric of reality that were fading as she peered into them. Like a slowly healing bruise upon the fabric of reality, she watched as the dark abrasions faded away.

The knights, sensing her disquiet, unsheathed their blades and the rough sound of steel scraping against iron broke her concentration. It did not matter - she had learned what she needed to know. Something had been through here - something that she had never faced before... and she would need a full strike group of warmages to truly track and corner this enigmatic monster. She raised a hand, signalling for quiet, and slowly began to walk back, motioning the knights to follow her out of the dingy, filthy alley.

"Put that down." she sighed. "We're going to need something than a sword to bring down whatever this is."

The knight hastily complied and sheathed his weapon, and she smiled inwardly. Once so tough and brave, now overcome with fear. It'd be cute... too bad she was unnerved as well.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
Looking through the various housing options on the board outside the tavern, Mikkael scanned the details about the various lands. Selk would be okay, were it not for the bandits, and Cyndar, while a center for commerce, would not be a place he'd like to constantly return to. One place caught his attention, however.

"Vex Vinas... A magic city." He voiced slowly. He heard of the place before from his parents and how all of his predecessors had studied some form of magic there, whether to become mages, acolytes, or other varieties of magic users, they were known to be a part of his family. Or, at least his former family.

"Hmph. Perhaps, but perhaps it would be better not to as well..." He scanned his eyes over the listings again, and eventually decided not to bother for now. As he turned, he noticed a courier approaching him.

"Mikkael Altans? I've got a letter for you. Two in fact." The courier presented him with two letters, one sealed with the Meridian Royal Family mark, and the other merely presented in scroll format.

"I see. Thank you." Mikkael tossed him a single coin for his work and waved as the courier headed off.

Sitting in the park, he opened the first letter with the royal seal.

"To Mikkael of the Altans Clan,
It has been some time since your departure, and I have been hearing of your progress even here in New Meridia. Your fellow soldiers who you learned the art of swordplay with have been eager to share stories of things you've accomplished. The instructors of cours shrug, but you know how experienced soldiers are."

"Do I ever..." Mikkael uttered, chuckling to himself.

"To the point, however, I have been in contact with your parents. For some reason, they don't provide me any word on you as a person. Mikkael, why is this so?"

At this, Mikkael stopped. He never expected anyone to try and dig into his past like this. He didn't want to speak of it, and didn't know if he could even respond to the question. What could he respond with? How could he respond?

"I'd like for you to return and help me understand your relations to your family and our people better. Of course, I understand if you don't want to, but at the very least, please write us back and tell us how things are going over on the mainland."

"... But, princess, why do you even want to know?"

"I shall await your response.
Princess Meridia of the Taltanis Clan"

Mikkael sat and gazed into the letter for a long period of time. On one hand, he wanted to destroy the letter for even bringing up his family. On the other hand, he still wanted to respond in some way. He decided to simply put it away for now and move onto the next letter. Unraveling the parchment, he gazed into the text written with black ink.

"We are waiting. Go to the coordinates marked on this letter."

On the parchment was a drawing of an island, north of the Slab of Destiny. Whatever this was, it wanted him to go outside the Reaper Factorium. It had no name on it, no insignia, nothing to identify the sender. Just the request on its own.

Mikkael simly thought to himself, "Well, I can't refuse a quest, but it'll have to wait." He then pulled off another Iron Delivery Quest from the board and set off for the Lumen Mines. He had to clear his head before doing anything major. As he left town, he noticed a scholar girl and knights going off somewhere, but he paid them no heed. Whatever business they had, for now, they could solve on their own he figured. Though it struck him as odd that magic users would be called upon in Cyndar. Was something going on? If so, just what?

Regardless, he merely followed the road as per the norm, and ventured into the mines. Any morpho he encountered was taken out swiftly with the swing of his pickaxe. The growth he has seen has definitely been good, as he took out five aqua morpho easily. The other five creatures were mere Lumen Plant Traps.

Besides the minor battles, he began to mine out ores.

Lumen Mines F1 Roll: 64 - 69 - 24 - 10 - 74 - 14 - 55 - 90 - 8 - 71 - 30 - 50 - 77 - 75 - 52 - 8 - 41 - 24 - 2 - 84
Earnings: Iron x54, Gold x4
Battle Earnings: 675 Legens, Blue Gem x1, Shiny Leaf x1, Wood x1, Charred Wood x1

He cleared out the first floor boss with ease and claimed the dropped goods. He opened the chest and then proceeded into the second level of the mines, where the goods would be much more valuable. He knew full well that he would not simply be able to walk out of this level of the dungeon, but Mikkael pressed on regardless. He found himself some ores right away and began to mine.

Lumen Mines F2 Roll: 37 - 96 - 37 - 9 - 80 - 26 - 70 - 43 - 5 - 29 - 99 - 96 - 1 - 45 - 27 - 48 - 25 - 37 - 78 - 75
Earnings: Iron x39, Gold x14

This time, instead of fighting morphos, he found himself fighting strange lights floating around. Shines. Noting how they seemed to be made of fire, he decided to put full use into his pickaxe to take out four. The rest were merely some more Lumen Plant Traps.
Earnings: 980 Legens, Red Gem x1, Wood x1, Charred Wood x1

Walking into a large chamber, clearly the room containing the boss, he gazed around looking for it. He held his pickaxe close and turned as he heard giggling and the sound of flight. Suddenly without warning, three grotesque fairies emerged before him.
"Sprites!"

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
((I have a specific plan mapped out now for the final six quests, all of which will be finished in this one post. First, get my iron mining quest capped off since it's really easy and good for the 20 quest mark. The rest will be mostly gathering quests since I don't want to try and capture the Bandit Boss with the actual equations, being too much of a money sink, and because I just need to turn items into the Tavern to complete the quest. It's simple and the place that I want to go to is right near the class change.))

Lumen Mines F1 Roll: 30 - 20 - 34 - 50 - 47 - 30 - 38 - 40 - 39 - 97 - 72 - 98 - 71 - 75 - 40 - 90 - 10 - 48 - 48 - 29
Earnings: Iron x51, Gold x6

Upon another trip back to Cyndar and dropping off his findings, Mikkael exchanged his smaller Legen coins for much larger ones, counting the small fortune he managed to accumulate mentally. He pondered for a moment what to do next and, taking a deep breath, decided to finally check out the magic city which caught his interest. He hopped on the carriage outside of Cyndar and took it to the Sunshriek Cliffs. Using a dragon, he set forth to the land of constant snowfall. The Vex Vinas islands.

Link

Landing just outside of the city, Mikkael began to walk through it with a sense of awe he couldn't hide, despite the ties of his bloodline to the city. The various magical implements which protected it created a sense of intrigue, such as the magic barrier which was projected above the town, likely to keep enemies at bay. Not only that, instead of warriors, it seemed as if mages were the guards of the town, covering their main clothes with elegant robes. Children ran around and played in the streets, building snowmen and having snowball fights. Indeed, Vex Vinas was perhaps a wonderful town after all.

Checking into the tavern, he noticed the major difference between it and Cyndar; The patrons were all magic users of some kind just based off of outward appearance. Yet not only that, no one really reacted to his race. Perhaps the magic community is a more accepting one. Nonetheless, he looked around and spotted a quest board, and took a mining quest for Sky Metal and one for clearing the Divinity Peaks. Knowing the potential dangers, he also picked up one stack of magic rope, two stacks of small potions, and one stack of medium potions. Utilizing intuition, he figured he could probably walk the spiral around the islands and end up at the particularly large mountain, Divinity Peaks. With a name like that, there had to be at least some of this blue metal.

((I used a different dice roller because the regular one was messing up. This one seemed to give me higher numbers for some reason. Also, I don't include the math for the next while because we've already seen it for the Sprite Battle, except this is less of em.))

Divinity Peaks F1 Roll: 60 - 56 - 94 - 57 - 70 - 81 - 87 - 8 - 37 - 10 - 82 - 97 - 61 - 55 - 6 - 88 - 43 - 97 - 89 - 7
Earnings: Impure Crystal x24, Sky Metal x16

Tossing his findings in his bag, he set out for the boss room after taking care of some monsters. He slays the sprites as he has before and leaves the dungeon, completing a quest. Afterwards, he re-enters the dungeon in the same manner as before once the quest is turned in to continue mining.

Divinity Peaks F1 Roll: 9 - 63 - 81 - 33 - 5 - 38 - 94 - 2 - 24 - 83 - 50 - 35 - 17 - 99 - 17 - 59 - 34 - 3 - 19 - 5
Earnings: Impure Crystal x32, Sky Metal x8

Clearing another route on the first floor, he proceeded into the second, then used a magic rope to climb back down and head back to the town to turn in his mining quest.

Divinity Peaks F2 Roll: 36 - 94 - 58 - 97 - 60 - 78 - 55 - 56 - 82 - 11 - 9 - 25 - 30 - 76 - 19 - 60 - 62 - 12 - 99 - 5
Earnings: Impure Crystal x28, Sky Metal x12

Finally making his mind up, he purchases the deed to an abandoned building in Vex Vinas, run down and out of use likely due to a low population in the city, and with most of them being students. Using his hammer and the additional materials provided, he begins work on his one story home, hammering away and moving wood planks here and there. Eventually, however, it was completed, and it looked quite homely as the information said it would. It was on a hill near the Tower of Will, so it had a nice view of the landscape stretching out to the sea. He went ahead and bought some additional wood so that he could also craft a forge. Knowing there would be a forge in Vex Vinas would surely be a boon to those warriors wandering through. However, a forge alone wouldn't suffice. He went and went a step further and turned in his free house component coupon to create a great forge. As a final upgrade, he also put money down on some more wood and used a few scrap materials to make an alchemy table.

Applying the finishing touches, Mikkael was approached by an old meridian being escorted by two mages.

"Mikkael? Is that you? What are you doing here?"

Mikkael turned to the familiar voice and his eyes widened.

"Great... Grandfather?"

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
-----Mikkael Chapter 1 Finale: Bloodline-----
It had been years since he had seen any family member. Many of them rejected his very existence. Yet here his great grandfather stood, acknowledging his presence.

"It has been quite some time, hasn't it?" The older meridian asked.

"It has..." Mikkael awkwardly answered, shifting in place.

"I see you've become a fine soldier since we last saw one another. Goodness, that must've been ten years ago!" The old man laughed at his own joke, which only made the younger meridian more uncomfortable. "Still, it is good to see you... How are your parents doing?"

"My parents are..." Mikkael hesitated at the question. "... I don't know."

This brought some shock to the old meridian, he shifted on his cane before speaking, "You don't know? How come? Did the dragons attack New Meridia?"

"No, nothing of the sort. Father didn't approve of me becoming a soldier, so I've been disowned for over five years now."

"By Lumbra's Heart... Even in his youth, your father always preferred us mages over warriors... I apologize for bringing such issues up. It must have been difficult."

"It's fine, but it'd be best if we left the cold. Come on in, I just finished building the place."

Link

The two meridians spoke over some warm drinks. Mikkael told his great grandfather of the many journeys he had since leaving the town. He spoke of the clearing of the Lumen Mines, his economic rise, the capture of the bandit boss, and how he felt seeing the various places around the world for the first time. It was a vivid world that he never thought he would ever get to see before, and it was one he wished to explore and even understand further. He spoke of all the people he met and even how he met the 99th arena champion herself.

Then he got to the part about the letter.

"So the princess is still well. Yet she has asked about our family."

"Yes. I honestly don't know if I should return to New Meridia and tell her about such a touchy subject."

"Hrmmm..." The old meridian thought in his seat. "Well, you're disowned by your father, yet you could speak to me naturally about this."

"Well, yes, but that's-" Mikkael stopped himself. Was it really different? He didn't and still doesn't know much about the princess herself, just as he had no idea about his great grandfather after the five year period of lacking contact. Mikkael continued, "Well, maybe you're right. Maybe I should just return to New Meridia and tell her highness about this after all..."

"Mikkael, why did you become a soldier?"

"I guess I... Just wanted to be strong and do things my own way. I wanted to pursue my own strengths and not follow the ideals set out for me by others."

"Then do what you deem is right, freely. For that is the way of your mind."

"... I'll be heading off to New Meridia. Great grandfather, when I come back... I want you to do something for me."

"... I see. I shall find out what I can do."

Mikkael consulted the teleport mage to bring him to the dragon port of Cita Den, he then made way to the New Meridia drop off and dove into the waters. Plunging himself deep into the cave system, he eventually emerged and made his way into the town square. There he was met by various stares and whispers among his people, as he dashed towards the palace. The guards greeted him, and without question, opened the doors for him to meet with the princess.

"Her highness has been awaiting you Mikkael, go on in."

"Thank you."

Link

The princess had been gazing outside her window at the sea life when he entered. She turned slowly and smiled at his presence. He took to one knee.

"I apologize for my lateness, your highness." Mikkael stated as soon as he had come to a full kneel. She gestured for him to rise with a smile, yet she showed some sorrow as she looked at his neck and fins.

"Your journey has caused you injuries, Mikkael?"

"Ah... Don't worry about them. I was careless during my quests. I came here because I have to tell you the truth."

Mikkael went into the details about how he had been living on his own since fourteen. He shared every detail about how he was kicked out of his own family and went on to become his own person, rather than follow what he was told he had to become. He knew he was showing dishonour towards the princess, but he cared not. He simply wanted her to know the truth about who he was.

"Because I think that it's not what I am that matters, but who I am that truly defines myself and what I bring to our race and our society as a whole."

"... I see. It's no wonder you didn't come by immediately. It must've been hard reopening such wounds." The princess closed her eyes and turned to the view of the ocean life once again.

"We're very similar, you know?" She comments. "We both care for people, despite the taunting and discrimination we receive because of our bloodlines and ties to monsters. We don't mind helping people, even if they have a negative opinion of ourselves."
Mikkael simply looks to her with silence.

"Mikkael, soldier of New Meridia, will you swear that you'll continue to serve the people of Jungalore? Even if things become bleak and the end of the world may be upon us?"

"Of course, princess."

"Then, I hereby declare that you are the first member of your own family, and you are free to roam Jungalore as you see fit... Just be sure to visit from time to time, okay?"

"Yes, princess."

Without further ado, Mikkael took a water dragon back to the Sunshriek Cliffs and headed back for Vex Vinas. Princess Meridia watched from a distance as the soldier went off to see his great grandfather and become what he thought was right for him. A robed figure approached the princess.

"So, what did you two talk about?"

"We talked about him founding his own family name since you were the one who disowned him."

"It was discipline."

"Well, it was still wrong... Did you know he's going to become a spellsword under your grandfather?"

"M-My son...?"

"No, Mikkael."

"... Then I guess I was wrong about him all this time." The man uttered with a smile.

The princess smiled and turned back to the departed dragon, now well off into the distance.

When he arrived in Vex Vinas once more he met up with his grandfather and gave the old meridian a nod.

"So it's done?"

"Yes, although I am now truly no longer one of the family, even if we share the same blood." Mikkael said with an almost sad smile.

"It's alright. Come, they're waiting."

Mikkael was led by his great grandfather into the Tower of Will. The massive tower was made with bricks enchanted by magic. Brooms swept the corridors without people manning them, and they ascended many flights of stairs before finally arriving in a round room. There, six magic knights sat. Mikkael and his great grandfather stood at the center of the room before one of the magic knights stood, with the other five following suit.

"Mikkael Altans, we welcome you as an audience member of the Vex Vinas Magic Knight Committee. We are here to judge whether or not you are worthy of becoming a spellsword. It is a path which weaves the powers of a soldier and a mage into one, and as you inquired, it unlocks for you a path into utilizing your own nature for the sake of combat."

Another knight spoke, "Will the one who is referring this soldier please step forth and speak their name?"

His great grandfather stepped forward, "Alaphas Moyon Lemalt, member of the Vex Vinas Wizard Committee."

"Has the initiate obtained the prerequisite training to become a spellsword?"

"He has, and has exceeded my expectations." The old meridian spoke with a smile.

"It sounds as if he has promise then." Yet another knight commented. "Let us administer the test. Master Alaphas, you may leave."
The older meridian stepped away from the area and a wall appeared, blocking the chamber from entry or exit. The table disappeared and left one magic knight and Mikkael in the room.

"I will be administer your test. The first is a simple quiz. This is a test on Magic Theory."

"Magic... Theory?" Mikkael questioned, suddenly feeling stumped.

"It's mostly math, you can probably handle such."

"Okay, phew."

"First, let us establish a few things. For the sake of this test, we will use an icy morpho as a target in this test. We shall assign it some details..."

"Okay." Mikkael nods.

"First of all, we will say it has a magical defense value of twenty four. We will further say that it is weak to fire. We will also say that it drops a blue gem and deals water elemental damage. What of these things is false?"

"Ah, I fought those before. They have bodies made of extra water elementals it seems, so I would say that it is not weak to fire."

"Correct. Next..."

"Say we have a scholar attacking it with water. The scholar in question has a magic attack of sixty. How much damage does the morpho take? Please show your work on paper as well." The magic knight presented Mikkael with a quill, ink, and parchment.

"Well, I can imagine the attack is similar to with weapons. We'll make an equation of D equals two times A's magic attack minus B's magic defense. Wherein D is the total damage, A is the person attacking and B is the defending target."

Mikkael writes, "D = 2(a.mat) - b.mdf"

"If we plug in the values from earlier, replacing a.mat with sixty and b.mdf with twenty four, we will then find that, through applying order of operations..."

Mikkael writes, "D = 2(60) - 24"

He then writes underneath, "D = 120 - 24"

He finalizes by writing, "D = 96"

"... the icy morpho takes ninety six damage. If we were to give the morpho a life value, this would be negated from the current life value."

"Splendid, in fact, let's do so. Say the morpho has a life value of fifty. How much life is remaining?"

"Zero." Mikkael responds.

"Why not a negative number?"

"You cannot have less than no life force, unless we're proposing a form of undead life, but then this would not hold up with observable reality."

"Indeed. What would the problem be?"

"That until you hit a value of zero, the morpho would be undead and would have to be resurrected through healing, but this also proves that it doesn't hold up with the idea of revival skills unless healing does not bring health above zero when of a value equal to or less than zero."

"Hmmm... Impressive. Alright. You pass. But first, since you are a soldier, I figure you have no true idea about how will works. Thus, I'll give you a lesson on it, and we'll have you class changed."

"Alright. Teach me, please."

Mikkael listened to the lesson on will from a book written by a wizard who once traded his eyes for power. He described will as a force which exists all throughout Jungalore, and is within the planet itself. The descriptions were almost mystical, but eventually, it became clear that will was more than just the power which one uses to exalt their attacks. With the conclusion of the lesson, the chamber reopened and the other magic knight committee members returned.

"So, tell us, how did he do?" One asked.

"He passed the test with flying colours, and even showed how the negative life problem contradicts observable reality."

"Really? Then my decision is final. Mikkael Altans, from here on, you shall no longer be a soldier, but a spellsword!"

The other magic knights clapped as a flash appeared before Mikkael's eyes and a set of clothing slowly floated down into his hands.

"These are the meridian clothes for spellswords. Wear them with pride."

"Thank you. I will."

Changing out into his new clothes, Mikkael looked at himself in the mirror. Black fingerless gloves with a sleeveless black long coat. He had a breastplate underneath and some black boots with simple plates, all over dark grey underclothes. He Modified his meridian guard helmet to match with some of the new understandings of will, giving it more of a silvery colour to match the metal of his new clothing. With a nod, he left the change room, ready to show his new powers.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
The debriefing at the Magus Guild chapterhouse in Cyndar was a terse affair. Three Seers had corroborated her story - their senses trained by decades of training had hunted down the trail of the "monster", where they found a rogue stripped of his vestments and a powerful bruise to the throat. He was recalcitrant to confess to anything - and with good reason; he'd get slapped with an illegal gambling charge if he did. One of the seers put down the doctored cup with an amused chuckle. It was clear that the peasant in question had tried to challenge the man to a rigged game of cup & ball.

They had deducted that it was either a powerful spellsword or a martial arts master. What kind of 'monster' would steal a man's clothes and empty out his bag of coin? The seers had been brought in after the clues gathered in the alleyway pointed to the presence of a rogue mage. What better to hunt down an adept of shadow magic then the Seers, who had known the powers of darkness, and gained wisdom from the cosmos for untold years? Many a dark creature had underestimated these wise old men and women... only to be brought down by swift, powerful spellcasting and relentless strikes from enchanted wooden weapons designed to bind and banish creatures of evil.

Even now, with the Seers looking over the tatters of clothes found near the victim, they had a clue. The fabric was used by workers in Frenga Farms. The general consensus was that the target must've used the distant farm as a hiding place after possibly disposing of someone to steal their clothes. Another clue that lent weight to the theory that the target was no mindless beast - but a sadistic predator.

Finally, a small scouting force was put together;- a proper Quest from the Magus Guild at last! She, along with 3 Warmages, and a Seer, was to go posthaste to Frenga Farms and investigate the surroundings for clues of the shadowy attacker who had attacked the militias in Cyndar. A second group of spellswords, led by warmages and seers, were put together to scour Cyndar for the attacker. With the two-pronged attack planned out, she watched as the knights arrested the rogue.

-

A few hours later, the carriage was prepared. The Cyndar Militias had graciously paid for travel and refreshments for their assistance. Some knights, no longer nervous - even waved a farewell to them.

As she climbed aboard, she heard the sound of horsesteps - and she saw a young courier from the Cyndar Guardsmen ride up.

"Ah, Miss... Natsuki, right?" he stammered out, holding a package out. "Um, the City Guard sends you this, with... regards.... and thanks for a job well done..."

Her pay.

She took it with a nod, and climbed inside the carriage. Once she settled down, she opened the satchel to find 500 Legens and 3 first aid kits.

Like it or not, she had a quest done.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
((We had a new update a couple days ago. I'm gonna inform now as I post to make sure people know about them. Still liking what I'm reading from others so far, and cannot wait to read more. That said, the latest update will allow people to become vampires, werewolves, half-dragons, and oni.~))

Mikkael's first order of business was to figure out just what he ought to do next. He now had a house proper, but in terms of adventures he figured, perhaps, he ought to either test out the new abilities, or look into what some of the other students were learning at the Tower of Will. After all, while it seemed people were allowed to study on their own, it seemed most people enjoyed the idea of sharing their collaborative results of experiments. Of course, Mikkael found it hard to initiate conversations, but he still decided to give it a try.

The Tower of Will was home to four particular committees. The first was the Magic Knight Committee, run by rune lords, they oversaw the initiation of the spellswords and magic knights. The second and third were the Wizard Council and the Sorcery Council, run by Warlocks and Sages respectively, overseeing the initiation of mages, as well as wizards and sorcerers respectively. The final was the Summoning Committee, made solely of beginning summoners, who would later travel out to pursue their advanced classes. Each of them had their own section to experiment or practice their skills. At the top of the tower, however, was the governing body of Vex Vinas, being that the town runs independent of any kingdom.

Mikkael walked among the various practitioners of magic. He gazed intently at how the spellswords would practice elementalizing their weapons, but when he walked into the sorcery portion of the tower, he witnessed his first real failure of an experiment...

... Or so he interpreted...

It all began with a bright light, concentrating harder and harder, clearly fire magic. It grew larger and larger, then suddenly...

KABOOM!

Most people ran over to the source of the explosion, including Mikkael, the sorcerer girl brushed herself off from the soot and blew away the smoke.

"Ahh... Damn, can't seem to get it to work still I guess..."

"Aya, why do you insist on this? You're always destroying stuff by trying this supercharge ability or whatever."

"Hah! You probably wouldn't understand! You are but a wizard!"

The girl then spotted Mikkael and pointed to him, adjusting her glasses, "AHA! You there, spellsword!"

"Me? What is it?" Mikkael asked.

"Explain to the naive wizard what we the magic casters lack!" The girl animatedly pointed to the wizards chuckling at her.

"W-Well... Uh..." Mikkael scratched his cheek before coming to a conclusion. "OH! You guys don't have super strong skills like bash! ... Right?"

The wizards and others laughed harder, yet the sorceress Aya got a sparkle in her eye, "CORRECT!~"

Everyone stopped.

"We are magic persons, and while we have elemental powers greater than the average sword swinging warrior, we lack a true powerful skill, that is why I shall one day perfect and create the skill, SUP-ER-POW-ER!" The lady declared, posing dramatically. Mikkael scratched at his cheek as she explained the dilemma. "YOU! What is your name?"

"Mikkael...?"

"MIKKAEL! Would you like to assist in my experiment?"

"Uh... well..."

"PERFECT!"

Mikkael and her stood in the center of the room, and she explained in very broad and incomprehensible terms how her fantasy skill would be used.

"... Thus by concentrating the will of multiple persons, or by the conjuration of more will into the charged elemental body, the spell would become charged to deal greater damage than we currently experience. This superpower skill would work in similar practice to bashes as you experienced as a soldier. I believe this makes sense, yes?"

"S-Sorta..." Mikkael nervously nodded. The others surrounding them could tell he didn't really understand, as could she.

With a sigh, she continued. "Just do as I say, we shall utilize fire and combine the spell to deal double the damage. Understood?"

"Now that, I can follow."

They began once again a supercharged fire skill. It grew in power and became brighter and brighter. They almost had it, but in similar fashion to the one witnessed earlier, another explosion occurred. They both got up and dusted themselves off again. Another unfortunate failure.

"Bah! Something has to be wrong with my model..." The sorceress noted. She pulled her long hair up into a ponytail, when Mikkael noticed she was... Different from other humans. Pointed ears, something he had never seen among people. Or perhaps he did. He vaguely recalled seeing them for a brief moment once before. Where though? Selk? Yes, it was...

"... Hey!"

"Wha-!?" Mikkael suddenly looked to her.

"What do you think the issue is?"

"Oh uh... Maybe you need more will invested?"

Others laughed and Aya joined in this time.

"Hahahaha!~ You realize I'm a sorcerer, right? You must've just class changed. The will investment is double, and thus could not cause-"

The girl stopped as if she realized something. "Wait, no, perhaps you are right. I'll need to look into it further, but for now... Well, thanks for helping out. Here, read this book. It should help you out with the systems we're dealing with."

"Uh, no problem... Thanks."

"No no, thank you... What was your name again?"

"Mikkael Altans."

"Well, I look forward to working with you again nonetheless."

It was a learning experience in the end.

While not exactly stocked to the brim, the Cyndar Library proved to be a fountain of important knowledge. From animal husbandry to zircon setting, he had found a lot of books and scrolls regarding the world. His focus was on several astronomical charts and geological maps of the world. Now, Yemhelch sat here alongside a group of aspiring mages, perfectly blending in with his everyman clothing and complete focus on the study of the world.

Sketched world map added to inventory! [1 slot]
A crude rendition of the world map, along with some navigational aids - lifted from the Cyndar Almanac.

His entrance to the city may have caused a mild uproar - but here, he was perfectly camoflaged. In fact, two royal guard patrols had walked right by him without a second glance. The less disciplined Cyndar militia had worse luck - they had been escorted out by the royal guard after they kicked in the door and shouted their challenges at the darkened ceiling. Stifling a mild chuckle at the memory, he continued reading.

The legends of the world was of particular interest to him. One legend in particular stood out to him; the tale of 5 mythical artifacts - that if gathered in one place by one man; could give him the power to rule the world. It must've been a truly ancient tale - he had found no less than 26 different retellings.

But what truly had his attention was the myriad of flora and fauna of the world. He took notes on the useful materials, and the harmful things that weren't so good to eat. Using a series of leatherbound codexes for reference, he memorized the forms and types of plants and local animals that he would no doubt meet on his travels. He was in the middle of sketching a particularly interesting variety of herb when one of the library curators announced that they would be closing soon. Taking the cue from the regulars, he put away the books and stepped out into the sunset after giving a friendly wave to the head librarian.

As he set out into the orange-hued street, he lowered his cap over his eyes to hide his abnormal eye color, but also to give the illusion that he was a bit too used to the cool light in the library. It worked... a little too well.

"Cave adaptation setting in there, rookie?" a young woman in the garb of a mage asked him.

"Yeah. What can I say, I'm a sucker for knowledge." he replied with a polite smile.

"See, thats the sort of attitude this world needs." she nodded eagerly. "Still, cave adaptation's real useful if you're plumbing the depths of dungeons. Even so if you learn how to switch easily."

"Dungeons?"

"... you're really new to this business, aren't you." she shook her head.

"Indeed. I've basically been working at Frenga for a good bit." Yemhelch explained. "In fact, until very recently, I was illiterate!"

"That explains a lot." she nodded. "Not much to do there but work on gardening. So.... tell you what, buy this girl a drink and I'll give you the inside scoop on those dungeons. What say you?"

"Allright, you pick the place." he told her.

"The Flying Tankard's a great place." she explained. "Us mages like to convene there with our streetears and magi after a good research run. C'mon, I'll introduce you."

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
On a calm night in a Swellington home, a young man struggles to sleep. He had been having these nightmares for what felt like months, but very well could have been longer than that. They all started after he killed her. He could still feel the gun in his hand and the heat from the barrel as he fired the bullet that took her life.
As he wakes up screaming, a small child runs into the room.
"Daddy, did you have the nightmare again?" The young boy asked.
"Yeah," Michael responded, "tonight felt more real than ever. Maybe I should take some sleeping pills. Knock myself out or something. Maybe then I won't have those dreams."
"It's a bad idea to try and repress feelings like that." The young boy said, shaking his head, "They'll come back a lot worse the second that you're off guard."
A pause.
"Daddy, I think... I know a way I can help you."
Michael turned to his son as the young boy continued, "I've been picking up these weird... Auras from somewhere very far away. I get the feeling that it's the lady from your dreams. I've been working on my teleportation magic, and I can send you somewhere close to where it's coming from."
The young man looked at his child in utter astonishment, thinking, "He must know that if I leave, I won't be around for God knows how long... Is he really willing to risk his life all so I can chase down a mere possibility?"
The small child sighed, looking down at his father in the bed.
"Daddy, I know I don't know where you'll be sent to, and I don't know if I'll be able to get you back, so make sure this is really what you want."
Looking around his room and then back at his child, a slight smile crossed his face, "I'm sure, I have to check." He answered with a slight pause, "This is what I want you to do. After you send me there, first, go to the man that gives the long speeches. If he's not there, go to the man that looks like Jesus but a little on the heavy side."

The small child nods and then stretches his hands outwards. The room grows pitch dark as he begins to chant. Michael felt his bed and floor fall out beneath him, and also heard what he thought was the beeping and passing of a satellite. He felt his body moving faster, and his back heating up. He continued moving faster and faster and faster until he was moving at speeds making it impossible to rationalize.

All of a sudden, he stops moving and feels his face smack against something hard and wooden. Opening his eyes, he moved his hand from his head and realized he was bleeding. As he realized this, the pain became worse and he shouted, "AHHHHHH GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKING SON OF A BIG-LIPPED MELON-MUNCHING BREAKDANCING BEATBOXING CHICKEN-FRYING WHALE-HUMPING BITCH-PIMPING CRACK-SELLING POT-HUFFING NIGGER!!!"
As soon as the young man finished his string of profanities, an elderly gentleman walked past him and lectured, "You should not use such profanity in the presence of women and children."
"GO COUNT YOUR PUBIC HAIR, YOU GERIATRIC FART! IT PROBABLY WON'T TAKE THAT LONG SINCE YOU ONLY HAVE FOUR!" Michael dusted himself off and demanded, "Now, you can either tell me where the FUCK I am, or you can go home and choke to death on some tapioca pudding while watching Jeopardy!"
The old man stammered for a moment, "W-w-well, I have no clue what this 'Jeopardy' is, but you are in the fair city of Cyndar! Capital of the Altena Kingdom! Our men are brave, our workers well paid, and we have the fairest women in all the land."
The young man chuckled to himself, "Alright, thanks old-timer."

Then, only one thought crossed him, "What kind of Legend of Zelda, Shakespeare bullshit did I just stumble into?"

((Just a heads up, the FH$ to Legens conversion was implemented. I just want to note a few things here...
1. Conversion rate is 50:1 for FH$ to Legens. I reasoned with Yom that this would be best and would make it so this isn't Pay2Win... Minus actual money paying. This also means you can't convert cents.
2. All conversions are final. There are no refund periods or refunds in general. You therefore cannot convert Legens to FH$.
3. All funds are to be transferred to me, SomebodyElse, the RPM/GM/Whatever. No one else can pay it out.
4. You decide how your Legens are spread. You can give them all to one character or spread them among your characters. How the character receives said Legens are up to you as well. Generally though, if you have no idea, it just came in the mail.
Thanks for reading, and please continue to enjoy the RP. Be sure to update your files here.))

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
Spoiler: show
"King Arthur, one of the greatest rulers of Jungalore and wielder of Excalibur, was protected by many knights. One such knight would become Arthur's greatest champion, with a large sword that could cleave beasts with a single swing.

No one knew from whence he came, and many who claim to give conflicting accounts which scholars find hard to agree upon. With no general consensus, we can only speculate that Lancelot was either fictional, or some aspect of the story is outright missing. His full name suggests that he came from a land with a lake, possibly linking him to Avalon, yet further digging reveals he was from a different land entirely, or at least different from most races.

Upon his arrival to Arthur, he supposedly fell in love with the queen, and one of his very first adventures was him heading to Mt. Mindar and saving the queen from peril. Then, on one of the days following this great rescue, he receives a challenge from a being known only as the "Copper Dragon". After facing the challenge of the Copper Dragon, defeating well over the twenty knights required, the Copper Dragon flees. The townsfolk bring him to a cemetery where he is beckoned to lift a slab, under which it is revealed that only one knight can lift it. That is where Lancelot found his name after years of only being called "White Knight". This town changed its name and became home to Lancelot and his future generations. Later on, he returns and ends a minor war between Arthur and a group of monsters. With his great battlefield performance, he is offered a boon from the enemy side, at which he asks that the war ends peacefully. He serves the enemy for a short period, but then moves on to serve under Arthur officially, along with the enemy of Arthur, who convinces the queen to return Lancelot's affections, which would eventually lead to the downfall of Arthur's reign.

Further down his timeline of feats, he meets with Elaine Taltanis, who tricks him into thinking she is Guinevere Altena, and after their copulation, she is impregnated with the boy who would grow up to be Galahad, Knight of the Lost Artifact. Guinevere hears of the affair and is furious. She criticizes Lancelot for his behavior and banishes him. Broken by Guinevere's reaction, Lancelot goes mad and wanders the wilderness for two years until he arrives at Meridia, where he is recognized by Elaine. Lancelot is shown the Lost Artifact through a veil which cures his madness. Shortly after he recovers, he returns to Cyndar after being found by two of the knights, both told to look for him by Queen Guinevere. Upon his return to court, Lancelot takes part in the Artifact Quest with Percival and Galahad, though he is only allowed a glimpse of the Grail itself because he is an adulterer and distracted by earthly honours that have come with his knightly prowess. It is instead his son Galahad who ultimately achieves the Grail to drink from.

Ultimately, Lancelot's affair with Guinevere is a destructive force, resulting in Mordred's betrayal of King Arthur. Upon hearing the news of Arthur's death, Lancelot finds that Guinevere has become a nun. She blames all the destruction of the Round Table upon their adulterous relationship, which is the seed of all the dismay that followed. She refuses to kiss Lancelot one last time, telling him to return to his lands and that he will never see her face again. Instead, Lancelot declares that, if she will take a life of penitence, then so will he. He then retires to a hermitage to live the remainder of his life in penitence, with eight of his kin joining him. Eventually, he becomes a priest, later conducting rites over the deceased body of Guinevere (who had become an abbess). As she had indicated, he never saw her face again in life. He had a dream warning him that she was dying, so he set out to visit her. But Guinevere prayed that she might die before he arrived, and so she did by the will of Lumbra, half an hour before his arrival.

After the queen's death, Lancelot and his fellow knights escorted her body to be interred beside King Arthur. Lancelot then begins to fail, distraught for the loss of his beloved king and queen. In fact, even before this time, it is believed that he had lost a cubit of height due to his penitent fastings and prayers. Lancelot dies six weeks after the death of the queen. It is implied that he wished to be buried beside the king and queen. However, he had made a vow some time before to be buried at Meridia, so he asks to be buried there so as not to break his word. Acting on Lancelot's death-bed request, his fellow knights go to Remnvald and fight against the dragons. There they die on Good Friday. His sword, however, was taken north of Avalon, to the land where he was born."

"I see." Mikkael says, closing the book.

"I find it quite interesting, see, it brings into question whether or not we are tied to the legends at all." A Meridian summoner notes. "I can see a clear relation."

Mikkael scratches the ridge of his nose, leaning back in his chair, "I can't agree with you."

"How? Again, it's all there.~"

"It's still only speculation at best. I can accept if the evidence points to it, but I can't accept it because the evidence is not actually there. Again, it's all only speculative."

The other Meridian leans over the book once more, "Even so... It seems highly plausible to me."

"Hm." Mikkael sounds. He then thinks for a moment before uttering, "Even so, plausibility doesn't equate to reality."

"Hey, you seem kind of distant. Something up?"

"Well, it's just that I thought I'd be doing some excavating or adventuring. Not just sitting around reading day in and day out."

The other Meridian scratches her chin. "You are right, but I don't think people like you and I are qualified yet to go to places like Arcane Well." The Meridian smiles, "Let me tell you a story of-"

Mikkael puts a hand up, "Stop. I don't want to hear more stories."

"Hey hey!~ No need to be rude."

"I don't mean to be, but we just got done reading a whole story. I'm worn out..." He then turns to his companion, "I don't see how you can even hold such a cheery exterior either after such a messed up story."

Putting on a pouting face, she responds, "I don't know how you hold such a poker face all the time."

"Remember what I said about being bored?"

"Still!"

"Hey, we're in a library you know!?" Mikkael responds while raising his voice.

They pause, and she smiles cheerfully.

"So there is emotion in you!"

"Huh?"

She then sits upright, "Come on Mikkael, ease up. There's plenty to do here besides read. If you really don't wanna read anymore, let's go hang out." Before he can answer, she pulls him up out of his chair and drags him down the multiple sets of stairs, despite all his protests.

"D-Doesn't this mean we're ditching classes!?" Mikkael calls out, trying not to fall as the girl continues pulling him along.

"I'll just say we were doing some field work.~" She responds, laughing happily while putting on a scarf.

Out in the town, she buys the both of them a quick meal and they go outside to eat.

"Say, why don't you wear a scarf, or something other than that? It's cold out."

"I don't need it." Mikkael responds while giving off a faint shiver from the lack of heat. He simply devours his warm meal, although it has little effect on his overall body temperature. The girl merely smiles at him and shifts over while taking short drinks from her disposable cup and eating at her meal delicately.

"I almost died."

"Huh?" Mikkael asks.

"Long ago, I almost died when trying to go on a quest. I was just a new adventurer, and I really wanted to learn about the properties of gems. Yet, on that journey, I was attacked by an icy great morpho. Thankfully, dad came out and saved me. He warned me not to go out of my league again, and to wait until I could actually..."

"Actually?"

"What day is it today?"

Mikkael thought for a moment, "Thursday."

"We'd better go. There's no excavations on Thursdays..."

Mikkael got up quickly, "WHAT!? HOW COULD YOU FORGET THAT!?"

"Woops." The girl said with a nervous laugh. "Actually, we probably can't. Around this time the supervisors move to the front of the tower as opposed to the city gates."

"Oh for..." Mikkael scratched his head. "Alright. Well, we're pretty screwed, but they patrol, so we'd be better off being outside of the city."

"I agree." The Meridian girl got up finishing her meal and tossing her garbage along with Mikkael's into a waste bin. They both rushed outside of the city limits into the snowfield. There would be no chance of them being caught outside, but Mikkael decided that outside was still not good enough.

"Let's go to the Divinity Peaks. No one will think to go there. Plus it's safe enough."

The two reach the great mountain and begin to talk again sitting at a campfire the girl started.

"So, I hear you have no family."

"Well... It's complicated, but with what I have accomplished, I am now able to be the 'ancestor' of my own family. I do have a father and mother of course, but I'm no longer in that family." Mikkael looks up to the sky and watches how the sky fades from blue to red. "I honestly don't know where I'm supposed to take it from there."

"You're lost?"

"I guess. I don't know how else to word it."

"I see. It makes sense then. We really were paired for a reason." She gets up. "I'm lost as well. I don't know where my journey is supposed to take me, nor can anyone tell me where because I... In truth, have no soul."

"How is that even possible?"

"I don't know. Yet, I've wondered, is it strange to see myself as valuable, even despite this? Am I of value?"

He nods, "Of course you are valuable. You are alive, just as every one of us are. Just as this planet is. Even if what you say is true."

"Mikkael, do you really see me as valuable? That is, knowing I have far more commonality with the monsters of this world than with its sapient species?"

"Idiot, just because you lack a soul does not make you less than us. If anything it makes you greater than us. It means you learn to be like us, and rise above. If anyone does mind, just know that I don't."

The Meridian girl smiles. "You're totally sucking up."

"Nah, sucking up isn't my thing."

"Just admit it. If not, I'll prove it one day."

"I have nothing to admit to-" His message is interrupted by a ball of snow colliding with his face. Wiping himself off, he looks to her, smiling back at him and laughing. Mikkael grins and throws one right back, and eventually they end up having a snowball fight.

"Hey, Mikkael?"

"Hm?" Mikkael responds. The two of them lay on their backs with the dying fire separating them. She turns over and looks at him.

"I'm glad you're my partner. I had a lot of fun today." He turns his head towards her and smiles back.

"Yeah, I am as well, and did too."

The two simply stare at the stars for a while, and eventually decide to walk back to Vex Vinas. Neither says a word.

"We have decided to place people in groups of two for the sake of increasing research findings and efficiency. Everyone please line up and we'll determine which people have the highest harmonization."

...

"It may seem odd to say, but your soul resonates best with this girl, Mikkael, she's a subject of research herself, but it shouldn't interfere with your own research, in fact, it will further ours considering how others have lower soul harmonization."

"Interesting. I have no issues. But, well... What's your name?"

"Philena Taltanis, I'm the cousin of our princess. Pleased to meet you, Mikkael."

"We appreciate your cooperation, be sure to keep her safe."

"Of course. It's nice to meet you too."

For some reason, around this one... It doesn't seem so familiar.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
((So, fun fact while doing this. I found out that I was missing 10 attack on my off-hand equip stat... lolwoops))

Quite pleased with the overall design of some of the two handed swords, Mikkael was skimming through the pages of one particular book on old warfare. He had no trouble getting back in the previous day, despite all the questioning, simply sticking to the story of cross-referencing some books of his own seemed to please the instructors. Yet this book was truly being cross-referenced with some of the weapon designs in his home. He noted one particular design, it literally looked like a giant paddle made of iron, clearly unable to be used with two, or even four hands. Engrossed in the text, he suddenly felt a tap on the shoulder.

"Hey Mikkael, whatcha doing?" Philena asked, leaning over his shoulder.

He smiled, "Reading."

"Didn't you say you were tired of that?"

"My boredom was lifted with a stroke of inspiration. This is something I'm willing to look into further, unlike legends." He shared one piece of parchment with some sketches of a particularly large sword with Philena. She looked over the paper multiple times.

"It's a sword?"

"A great sword, yes." Mikkael confirmed, "I was also looking into this book on old methods of warfare. Take a look at this, they had all sorts of strange inventions in the past, but it looks as if this was supposed to either be attached to some war engine or wielded... somehow."

"THAT!? It's six feet in length! A foot in width!" The meridian girl questioned in utter shock.

Stifling a laugh and perverted joke, Mikkael turned in his seat. "See, I'm considering trying to make this, but a more practical version."

"I see." She smiled. Then she realized what he had just said, "... Wait, WHA-!?"

"Yep, it shouldn't be too hard. I've looked into some more manuals and treatises on how zweihanders should be handled." He stated, closing the book and penning down a few more notes.

Philena merely put a finger to her forehead and shook her head in disapproval, "Mikkael, you'll break your arms trying to swing that."

"I figured such, after all, even the book says that weaker users of these swords would end up breaking their arms. However, we're meridians, we're naturally built for these sort of weapons, plus I think... Well... We'll see." He continued speaking as he placed the book back in the shelf where it was found. "I've got a pretty decent build so... I may be able to use it, even if it's very slow."

Philena grinned back in disbelief, "Well, have fun wi-"

"Nope. You're coming too."

"Huh? Why?"

Mikkael smiled, grasped her hand and started off for his house.

"Huh, so this is your home?" Philena asked. "It seems quite cozy. When did you get it?"

"Just recently. Feel free to make yourself comfortable. There's some drink available. I'll need to prepare some things before I begin."

Philena sat at the couch with a small cup of water in her hands, keeping warm at the fireplace as Mikkael went outside and pulled out seven ingots of Sky Metal and four Blue Gems. He double checked the notes and then projected the measurements required.

He came back into the home and placed the four gems in front of her with some work tools.

"Can you make these into bolts?"

"Um... Well, can you show me how?"

"You mean you've never- Oh... Right, of course." He noted that she was a summoner, and not in any way required to develop physical weapons. "Well, okay, can you help with maintaining the forge temperature at least?"

"Sure, I can do that!~" She responded happily, following Mikkael to the forge.

She began to use the bellows to start up the increase in temperature. Mikkael started to make the bolts of blue gems, he placed an ingot of Sky Metal into the refinery to make it into molten metal.

"So is there any reason I'm actually helping."

"I guess, in some way, I wanted to see if we're similar in application of skill." He answered, finishing off the second bolt.

She thought for a moment, "You mean... Like we can utilize our skills to provide equal craftsmanship?"

"Something like that."

Mikkael continued working on the blue gems until all of them were turned into proper bolts. He then brought out a cast for the joining pieces of metal. Afterwards, he places his remaining pieces of Sky Metal into the forge, flattening and bending them over multiple times.

"So why are you just folding and flattening?" Philena asked.

"It's called the Damascus Method. It apparently makes a stronger blade." Mikkael noted, smiling as he continued to hammer. "It also looks really cool."

After much hammering and shaping, he went ahead and asked that Philena grab an extra pair of Tongs to help bring the heated materials over for tempering.

"So you also needed help bringing your materials around?"

"Pretty much." He laughed with her. The tempering was completed in minutes, and all that was left was assembly.

"So, this is the sword?" She asked. The tinted metal gave off a beautiful shine as Mikkael sharpened the edge of it.

"Yep, they call it a Buster Sword."

He picked up the hilt, wrapped in some extra cloth for grip, indeed a very heavy weapon, and it left both arms sore trying to lift the massive slab of metal. Eventually he found a comfortable type of grip and turned to one of the test dummies he had set up earlier. He swung with as much force as possible and not only did he slice straight through the metal beam and plating supporting the dummy, but he sent the top piece flying a good twenty feet.

"It feels like I dislocated my shoulder a little..." He said sitting down and looking at their completed work, wincing a little. Philena moved beside him and made a simple observation.

"Not as strong as you thought, huh?"

"Nah, but I just need some practice." He laughed, "Thanks for helping with this, it was quite productive."

"Yes, although I wish I could've helped more." Philena humbly giggled to herself with a nervous smile.

"Nah, it was enough. It would've been a pain in the ass to do it alone. Besides, it feels good doing things together, I think."

Mikkael got back up and served the two of them a glass of water and a simple meal.

"Sorry, I'm not much of a cook. Never had the chance to do it for myself before." He admitted.

"Really?" Philena asked.

He took a bite of the food. It wasn't too bad, but wasn't worth any awards either. "We were always served meals back at home. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On my adventures, I would always be served food as well, be it at a tavern or just out of hospitality."

"You must have gone to a lot of places."

"I suppose. I've lived at New Meridia for a large portion of my life, 19 years in fact. I'm not really sure how to progress, to be honest, yet I've brought myself to Cyndar, Selk, and Vel Da Ir at the very least. I did make one stop at Cita Den before, but it was very brief. It was when I last went to visit your cousin, her royal highness."

"Hmm... I see, and you must've been to some of the surrounding dungeons I figure?"

"Some, yes." He continued eating. They maintained silence for a moment, when he asked, "So where have you been? I mean, life as a Summoner must have been harder. It costs a lot to maintain I figure."

"Well... Yes, it does. I had the benefit of wealth, of course." Philena rubbed her hands together, "I've been around New Meridia I suppose."

Mikkael raised a brow, but she continued, "I just can't really think of any particular place I've been that may be interesting to you."

"Oh, well, I guess I can understand your perspective."

They finished eating soon enough and Mikkael noticed her looking at his fins. It reminded him of how she often gazed at his neck as well the other day. Clearly she was looking at his battle scars.

"Wanna know how I got them?"

The girl sat up abruptly, "Oh! Uhm... I didn't mean to look at them..."

"It's alright. I got these from a battle with a bandit boss over in Vel Da Ir. He literally cut straight into my fins and cut deep into my neck during that battle. If not for my careful preparations, I probably would've died."

"Oh..." She looked away.

"Yeah, not the best table conversation, I know. However, it's okay. I'm glad I have the chance to share these things with someone." He took a drink from his cup, as Philena simply smiled and looked away, sipping her own drink as well.

The rest of the time there went by calmly.

Mikkael strapped the massive blade to his back as they began to leave. Philena stepped outside first and stopped, turning to him, "Hey, Mikkael, thanks for having me over. We should do something like this again."

"I'd be glad to have you over any time." He responded.

They walked back to the tower, and before they entered, she noted one final thing.

"You're strong. Stronger than me."

"Huh?" He sounded.

"I... I think you should wear a scarf though. You'll catch a cold."

"Like I said, I don't need one." He smiled, walking ahead, "Though, I'll consider it."

She smiled at him as he continued ahead, "How can I be stronger?"

Suddenly, a voice resonated within. Startled, the girl gazed around, but without knowing who it came from or what it meant, she shook off the dread feeling that came with it and caught up to Mikkael heading for the next lesson.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
Holy triple-post, batman!

-

It had been an uneventful trip to Frenga Farms, especially for one on carriage. But what they found as they journeyed further in would be more than 'eventful'. For starters, some of the peasants in the farms clearly had seen some abnormal things. In fact, they had been EATING the creatures with gusto! Some of the seers had expressed worried about contamination and one of the more hot-headed warmages even muttered about 'bringing down the thunder' on the uneducated land-workers.

The creatures had appeared from the south - and just by looking at the way the natural scenery changed, she could tell that something had happened deep within. She simply did not have the words for it.

This was a new scenario - an invasion by an unknown enemy, sending their scouting animals, then by the reports of the attack at Cyndar - their first 'scouts'. Whoever this new nation had arisen, this time the Magus Guild would be investigating this new presence. She found it ironic that the first wave of scouts from this unknown force had been eaten by the locals.

"Its delicious, sirrah." one of the peasants explained, as he held the charred meat of a plump, rabbit-like creature with a shockingly mannish face. "I dunna see whas the prabllem about. You city folks is hypochondriac."

Judging by their reports, they had first encountered the unusual creatures at least three months ago, first discovering that they were quite edible. While it may have appeared repulsive, meat was a welcome change of diet for these peasants who had toiled their life providing food to the entire region.

"Why haven't you informed us?!" one of the seers exclaimed.

"An' have ye city folk come and place a ban on us eatin' some proper' stew for a change? Fat chance, laddie."

It had been a rough day, questioning some of the peasants - some who were remarkably wary about the more snobby mages, but more would follow. The Magus Guild expedition into the jungle would start tomorrow; their goal - to discover just who had sent the shadowy creature on an attack run to Cyndar.

As they set up camp, Natsuki considered the facts. Frenga Farms was extremely close to the 'appearance point' of these unknown creatures. Why then, had it chosen to attack Cyndar - a fully defended fortress bastion? The shadow creatures would have had an easy time poisoning the hapless peasants and simply taking over Frenga Farms. She felt as if she was missing a vital clue and going off on the wrong tangent... and that annoyed her.

As she settled down in the camp bedding, she heard a scream. A seer on patrol duty - right outside her tent!. Grabbing her foci, she quickly ran out into the darkening night - right into the patrol. The older woman, slowly backed away, as she pointed behind Natsuki's back. Dreading the worst, she slowly turned around as she registered more footsteps - more of her magus guild brethren coming to aid.

What faced her would haunt her dreams for a while.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
"This assignment is quite dangerous, as you can all tell." The magic knight instructor finished, "Your partners have all been briefed as well, and we have some warlocks posted at key locations."

Mikkael raised his hand, "Sir, if this project is as dangerous as you say, why not leave it to the higher ups, especially if warlocks will be brought with us?"

"This is also part of your lessons. We saw this as opportune for learning how to dispel magical traps."

"Is something wrong Mikkael?" Philena asked as they walked along with the rest of the students.

The meridian wrapped himself up tighter in a blanket he carried and responded, "Yeah, this idea seems stupid."
She looked at him with some degree of concern but he didn't continue. They were already well on their way to Arcane Well and he already grabbed a quest for clearing the dungeon on top of this endeavor. The ruined city soon came into view, and they gained entry after checking in with some high ranking sages outside. Indeed, this would be a dangerous excavation, so much so that the way the warlocks were acting only created a greater sense of unease in Mikkael. He took a look at the architecture around them. Ruins. Nothing but destroyed ancient houses made from carved stone, laden with magic unknown to the modern age. It was mentioned that this ancient city has been around longer than any of the great civilizations of the modern age, long before even the dragons, yet was all wiped away in a cataclysm they named "Second Impact". This impact supposedly gave birth to all current will in Jungalore, and would allow for the birth of all creatures.

Among the ruins was someone no one recognized. Mikkael looked at the figure, a human? He clearly had a masculine form. A warlock approached him.

"Sir, what's your clearance? Why are you here?"

Silence.

"I'll have to ask you to-"

"This place is dangerous for all of you. I'm looking for the same thing you're all seeking." The hood concealing his face nodded them back towards the entrance.

"We're qualified individuals sir, I assure you we-"

"No, you have no idea what you-" He paused, looking at Mikkael. From under the hood his pale skin smiled slightly, "On second thought, you may be qualified after all."

The man walked back, passing Mikkael and sliding a note into his side bag pocket. The warlocks watched as he continued further and disappeared into the growing snowfall. With that out of the way, the class was split up and told to head in various directions. Mikkael and Philena were leftovers and ordered to stay behind and check out the main square.

"Tch, of course, I'm only the one with the best weapon here..." Mikkael complained, Philena simply walked beside him as they investigated the area. It truly was nothing but a snow covered ruin. Oddly enough, no skeletons remained in the areas they were looking at, as if they all simply up and vanished.

"Say, Mikkael, that guy was strange, huh?"

"I guess, but the way he looked at me spooked me. Like he was piercing my very soul without even using his eyes." The male meridian responded as he checked out what seemed to be a forge. "It's strange, it's like he was familiar in some aspect, but it was more than just regular familiarity, it was like I knew him from somewhere. You know?"

No response.

"Philena?"

Mikkael turned and found Philena perched up on one of the roofs of the buildings, surrounded by icy morpho.

"H-H-H-..." The girl fearfully uttered. Mikkael shrugged and cut away at all of them in one blow using the buster sword, despite their onslaught which was deflected by his superior defenses. He helped the girl off the roof who clung to him.

"You kidding, right? They're just- Oh... That's right."

"Uh... Sorry... I know they're weak beings, but I just don't feel comfortable fighting them." The girl responded. Mikkael scratched his head and then reached into his side pocket.

"Here, have a drink or some-... Huh?" He pulled out the flask and the note slipped in earlier. handing the beverage to Philena, he opened the note.

"What is it?" She asked, drinking.

"The object that your class is seeking is far too dangerous for them to handle. Mikkael, you will find it on the second area of these ruins. Know, though, that this object will bind itself to your soul, for it is bound by a divine principle, yet will bring about absolute cataclysm. Take it and perhaps it can be dealt with properly, leave it, and disaster will occur."

"That isn't funny!" Philena shouted in response, taking the note and reading over it. She took a moment before speaking up again, "How did you get this? You think it was that guy?"

Mikkael shrugged, looking around and checking the ruined homes, "Whatever the case, I think that this really is far too dangerous as I suspected. Yet I don't think that guy was screwing around." He paused and looked on towards a nearby temple of sorts, "I think we ought to retrieve the object in question though. Come on, that has to be the next section of the dungeon."

Despite the protests by Philena, Mikkael continued onward, cutting away at the remaining attackers and ending up at the front of the ruined temple. There, they encountered a Great Icy Morpho. However, regardless of its attacks, Mikkael merely sliced it in two with his massive blade. Indeed, he was getting used to the weight, but it still was quite slow for his liking. Nonetheless, he kicked open the offering chest at the front, something most people would frown upon, and picking up the Legens inside placed a smile on his face.

He walked on silently into the temple. It had one set of large doors ahead, locked. No doubt a powerful enemy would be inside. What he found more intriguing than the set of doors was...

"There's no crosses." Philena mentioned. Mikkael nodded. The cross was the holy symbol of Lumbra, recognized universally across the entire world. Though the Meridian peoples never worshiped a god besides a primordial being in their far and distant past, even they knew the significance of the cross. Perhaps this chapel was for some other deity, or perhaps the people living in this ruined city held belief in mere spiritualism like the modern day Meridian people, that is, without any form of a god. It appeared to be so as Mikkael gazed at the windows, which shared imagery of the four primary elements. Was this city the place where the original alchemy was founded? He pondered it long and hard, so much so that Philena got caught up in it.

She beckoned Mikkael to follow along. It would appear that they would need to find some sort of keys to enter the large doors, or find some other mechanism behind opening them. Mikkael then felt a sort of... Unease. Something was beckoning him other than her, but it was as if it was on the other end of those large doors.

Despite whatever odd feeling he was experiencing, they continued on a path of carnage, as Mikkael barely needed more than one bash in order to smite the enemies attacking. Puppets and Homunculi mainly, and despite what spells they case, Mikkael merely sliced the magic in two along with the magic beings, collecting his goods. They didn't find anything down one corridor, merely storage rooms with food and drink, yet it had been eaten into ages ago. Neither of them opted to have a taste, but instead used the crates and barrels to make a quick campfire.

"Hey, Mikkael... Something is strange." Philena uttered laying on her side, resting her head upon her bag. The boy looked to her as she continued, "Something about this place feels dangerous."

"I know what you mean. I get the same feeling."

"Are you still sure you want to do this? You can always back away."

"A noble spellsword such as myself mustn't ever back down from a challenge!" Mikkael bolstered with a grin, but it faded slowly as he continued, "Philena, I almost died in that fight with the Bandit Boss." Mikkael paused as he said this, placing his helmet on her head while wiping off the blood, "I could have run away. I could have gone against everything and decided to return home. Yet despite that, I continued to fight, regardless of the potential outcome."

"I feel as if I'm supposed to ask why. That is, why must you never back down?"

"Why I did is..." He paused without much of a clear answer, however, a noise down the hallway alerted him. Mikkael placed his helmet back on, brought the visor down, and drew his buster sword towards three attacking sprites. He slaughtered each with relative ease and continued onward.

"Let's go. The rest of the scholars are probably waiting on us."

They never found a key, but Mikkael decided the best way in would be to simply kick down the door. It worked out, and they found themselves in a large circular room. The roof had crumbled long ago, and glass fragments lay scattered across the floor, with a large set of boulders at the center. In an instant, they animate and form a golem.

Something strange awakens within Mikkael from the pain, he picks up the great sword with one hand and walks forward. His eyes glow red within the helmet, and he roars outright at the broken magic construct. The absolute power of the monsters awakens within him , fusing with a new kind of power seemingly coming from nowhere. He steps forward towards the golem, showing his absolute power. His breath grows heavy and he draws a massive horizontal slice with the buster sword! A large portion of the golem's body crumbles, and even with the retaliation, Mikkael merely steps forward and destroys the exposed magic core within the stone body using only his fist. Philena continued to watch on from the side as he did so, and the warlocks rushed in finally, pulling Mikkael away from the now lifeless construct. He began to calm down, and the instructors lectured both him and Philena for going too deep into the ruins.

"S-SIR! THIS IS IT!"

The instructor turned away and looked to the object a warlock was gazing down at. He puts a hand over his mouth as he looks into the broken core of the golem. Mikkael peers over and sees it. A gauntlet, cracked, stonelike, and seemingly designed as if it were meant for one of the titans. Mikkael stepped forward and was held back by an instructor.

"No! This is not for you to deal with!"

"Hey, I was the one who found the damn thing! Let me see what it is exactly!"

"He does have a point." One of the warlocks interjects. Philena steps forward next to Mikkael and the instructor looks to her, then Mikkael.

"Okay, you may be the one to handle it, but Philena, while you may gaze at it, you must not come into contact with it. Am I understood?"

"Yes, but what is it?" The girl responded, looking to the stone-like glove. Mikkael picked it up and examined it thoroughly. He finds it to be a simple gauntlet of stone, then he looked at his hand and realized not only was he bleeding, but the area covered in his blood had a completely restored appearance.

Black metal. Absorbing blood and showing an ominous aura. It's a dark knight's gauntlet.

Mikkael would be the one to take it back and share it with the researchers, but, in the end, despite all of their remarks and protests, he would be entrusted with its care, though warned to never wear it.

That was when the voices became louder.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
The creature stood in the darkness of the trees, well over the size of a wild desert elephant, darker than the shadows that draped its gargantuan bulk. Bright red eyes - a few pairs too many, peered out from its body from mismatched places that should not be. Splitting its body in half was a massive toothed maw from which cruel, jagged fangs glistened with drool as it breathed excitedly, as it surveyed the small force gathered before it. Its breath stank of rotting flesh - and she saw, to her horror - bits of flesh and gristle stuck between its teeth.

With a massive roar, the creature bound forwards on too many legs at once, and the smell of burning flesh assailed their nostrils as they began their counterattack!

She knew her limited repertoire of spells would not be of any use, so she focused on stepping behind the warmages and prepared to use her healing skills to use, to ease the will-use strain the warmages and seers would certainly suffer from this fight.

The battle closed in, and the ranged fireballs were switched out in favor of close-range wind spells, and Natsuki stayed well behind the battle, quickly applying salves and curatives to the mages suffering from spell strain. From here, she watched the carnage - elemental spells striking this way and that, and the beast enduring it with heavy grunts and growls.

Suddenly, the creature had enough of the attack - a series of blackened tentacles shot out, snagging a newly minted seer by his hands and legs, and before anyone could react, the creature smashed its jaws shut on him, silencing his cries of pain.

Shock descended on the group, as the full horror of what they were fighting fully dawned on them. Using this quick lull, the monster quickly bounded back to the shadows, and rushed through the small dirt path into the jungle, leaving the group of mages horrified into silence.

"It was playing with us. Like how a big cat toys with its captured prey..." one of the senior warmages exhaled, breaking the tense silence. "Gods help us."

They had decided that camping at the edge of the accursed forest was too much of a gamble - so, disassembling camp, they had returned to Frenga Farms; they would rest at the Traveler's Inn. There had been playful jeers at the returning magus guild members, but once the people had learned that something had EATEN a mage, they had become less skeptical. Some people, however, decided to consider that it was divine punishment.

"Peasants." one of the warmages sighed quietly.

Natsuki wrote on her journal as she settled in to the soft hay bed. She tried to recall the beast that they had fought - and she sketched it as she wrote some notes for the bestiary; tomorrow morning, they would compare notes and try to identify the monster.

"And if possible, give Brother Adren a proper burial." she whispered to herself. The sturdy stone walls of the inn gave her some sense of comfort as she lay down to sleep.

Spoiler: show
Natsuki's Notes
Bestiary entry: "Shadow Beast."
Size: Estimated 16 feet tall, 20 feet wide.
Carnivorous.

A many-legged fell beast from the newly discovered jungle south of Frenga Farms, its many eyes glow red in the dark. Appears at nightfall, attracted to the scent of prey. The scent of burning flesh follows its body, and its mouth emanates a stench of rot and gore - perhaps remains of its previous meal. Slowed down, but otherwise unaffected by elemental spells. Recommend using holy wards and barriers to prevent it from approaching. Preferred prey - flesh. Warning: Prehensile tentacles, fired from the massive mouth! It is used to snare prey and draw it to the jaws of death. The creature's teeth are jagged - best designed to crush and grind flesh and bone.

Post Re: Chronicles of Jungalore Main RP Thread
((Just a heads up, I haven't forgotten about this RP. I know I haven't posted here in a while, but I'm working on a bit of an update for our priests and for the new RP I have started as well. Both are equally important, I assure you guys. I'll have my next post in soon. For now, I'll just be finishing up the updates for both RPs, at least once we get some more profiles in ARKNIGHT and get that RP rolling along.

What you people aiming for priest can expect is some skills against demons and the undead, and some new buffs. All of which are priest only. I'm looking forward to what you guys will be doing with it all. There will also be some new skills for our druids, something I think everyone will find useful, and give druids a unique edge over other characters, and solve for the attribute issue that comes with subraces.

Furthermore, you may now become the God subrace over top of another subrace, but it will overwrite your other subrace's attribute. The Draco subrace will be able to choose what kind of dragon they wish to be in terms of element as well.

Many thanks, and happy adventuring!))
