as you are sitting in your lab performing ah ...research your "chemistry supplies" accidentally got mixed with some volatile explosives.
next thing you know you are waking up on the ground with perth (city subject to change) city visible in the distance your lab is on the other side of the city an explosion big enough to have sent you this far is sure to have being noticed you had best get there before the authorities you do have experiments you dont want the law to find out about.
