lol well blog's are auto-creatable, so that's no problem, but all the forum creation walkthroughs ive seen don't really explain how Yahoo!'s tech works, so ya, i'm tryin to create a forum, and if u can help that'd be coo', but not sure how XD

well.... i'd appreciate the help, so sure, if a forum can be started up on my site that'd be great

as far as the advice... wellllllll... I ran into one bitch of a snag... ><

Paid up for everything, hosting, programming, etc. BUT when the programming arrived, I found out my '02 computer lacks the hardware to run it... as it needs 512MB of RAM for Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, and mine has 315 or so... I'm fucked. I've been using an old free Dreamweaver MX series, but I can't do any legit business business work, just free-lance with that. Sooo, until I can find a new computer(I tried installing new RAM, but the ports for additional components has since changed since '02), my site won't be too fancy. >.> I do like the simplicity of it now though. I do need to change the .png to .jpg tho once I get off my ass because some site viewers don't support the filetype, so it doesn't appear white with the rest of it all. I'm hoping some jobs will show off 'fancy work', while I keep my site simple yet cool. My friends and I like the red/white/blue oldschool setup, but meh... XD idk... I'm still working out technicalities while dealing with college and looking for a roof. -.-

So sure, help is always appreciated, and ideas are welcome. Just don't expect me to know how to do it all. XD

this layout would work fine, minus the porn and stuff lol

I'd lose all sponsors(besides T-ShirtHell >.>) for any porn/illicit publications on my site. Of course I'll deal with legal jargen to make it ok in the forum after it's up... <.< but that's a step higher up in the ladder. lol

I'll email you now from my commonly-checked account. The one on my site is checked .... not-so-much. <.<

In answer to your age old question, making a forum or chat is roughly the same. you need a client and a server.

the client is the code on the page that users see. this code then submits and requests info from a server at a defined IP address. naturally Logins need encryption so the client and your potential server need to share an encryption method so they can negotiate a key. for this reason many servers are written in cousin scripts of the code used on the site, such as PHP or javascript. most of those languages have a built in message encryption negotiator that you can just flip "on" when sending messages. after that you need to keep a database of Users and passwords, preferrably encrypted but the software needs to know how to decrypt it by using a key you've stored somewhere or thats built-in to the server code. then you'll need folders and text document creation based on user input. the actual server side of the forum doesn't need to have a GUI and doesn't need to render images or plug-in content. it just stores such as a link(URL) to the associated file online or in a parent folder.

then users who login are checked against the database if username and password are true, then IP address is authorized to access Username account, save authorization code as a cookie in browser as well so even if the IP address changes so long as the cookie is good you're still logged in.

naturally that cookie needs to be sent encrypted and decrypted by the client. and whenever it sends it's content back tot he server when loading a pagee the client needs to send it encrypted.

last once logged in the user can request pages. which should be html docs on your machine which load posts or other info. and each user can make posts which should be text documents on your machine. and such is how to make and display a custom forum.

for simplicity forums usually have 'Forms' which are like the basic outline for a page but with no content this is what the user loads, but they request a specific page's content to fill it. then when a user requests a page the forum reads a save file for that page and sends that to the user. the user's client automatically uses the form and fills in the recieved content.

that requires a knowledge of data handling and simple formatting such as HTML formatting or PHP.
