I've been a mod before. I've been an admin. But that doesn't make me a good one. It's not really about having the experience of having power but having the knowledge of usage, or at least usage of power. Sick is a great Mod over on Chatango boards, simply because he rarely does anything. Most of the time he creeps. Every now and then he'll spam delete, moreso he'll ban even less occasionally. But almost never. He's great because he uses his powers sparingly. He watches over and has fun, but mostly only acts when it breaks the rules.

Most forums have rules like this, most are stronger ruled than FH. They create intricate guidelines you have to follow. A good site does this on purpose and only to fit it's original design. The laws are either bindingly specific or generally broad but only in things they want to stop. Admins make the site, Mods enforce the site.

A good mod knows the site well, and the behavior allowed. When you cross that line you can get into trouble, but true mods never bring themselves into it. Even when it gets tough you try not to. Bringing personal thoughts, convictions, and feelings in makes things break. Often overpowering people or preying on their problems. You have to treat the line like the line and stop incidents. Full on BANHAMMER FOREVER should be a last resort. Temp bans should be rare. These should be sent to people who continuously break rules set up to enforce the site's design or who ruin others. If something's a problem both sides should be reexamined for possible fixes, rewritings, warnings, or other helpful parts. More than this, mods are usually integral members of the site, and should continue their helping the site most of all. They have to be prepared to step into the suit of the police, or cleanup report crew, while still running things.

A good admin also knows the site well, and the goings on. They can better modify the site to enhance it for everyone included and improve on original intentions or morph it to new ones. They shouldn't be afraid to completely throw away months of code work, or to fuck around with the basic code. They should have the intentions of the people, not the site at heart. The people serve the site and the admin serves them. The admin is the designer, the person in charge. In that they should make it a better place for all involved with all their effort.

I've seen a lot about being a mod or Admin or what have you. On this site and many others. I've been em, and you have to be a smart one(at least in your actions), or else you don't deserve it. People are mods because they are trusted members of the community, people are admins because they know what's best and how to get there. I've been both and I think I've been good when I've done them.

That said this is more a discussion on them in general. I don't have the time for mod duty, and being an admin is nice but I can't put the effort in right now. Also I'm new as hell with everyone here being more nuanced in the site. Sure I know how most of you think, talk, or design but there are nuances you pick up over time. And even if I figured everything out I'm still new. And because of that I'm not nearly ready to even put myself in mod discussion. Regardless of my quality I'm still new.

I was hoping for some reviewing on my general behavior patterns.

Well it's more a generalized rubric on which to act on. I don't know your actual impact as an admin other than some security and bot fixes. But you choose to be a common poster rather than an overseer. It's more taste and preference which you choose. I personally like admins like you more but it can vary from person to person.

I was expecting reviews as well, I am disappointed.

On topic, do realize that "moderation" here is more akin to moderation on places like 4chan rather than conventional forums. Though Yom is a huge softy.

I realize, this is a general rubric. It's for the basic understanding of why one is or isn't good. You guys tend to do it well by keeping good care of the site.

I don't have enough data for a large review but here's something.
Kristina tends to use power for menial things but Hanzo seemed to just fuck stuff up. AFH is pretty good but has trouble with straight idiocy and not trolling. Yom seems to use powers to help or as light jokes and never without considering impact. I can't know much of the actual impact but Kristina seems to really help the site get along, and everyone seems to help in this on variations. As I said the rules are light and require more general usage, and don't have specificity in what you can't do. People know what lines not to cross, and they tend to follow it. Because of that the only thing that seems to have made a bad mod is inactivity. And though that happens a good amount to people over time on the site, it seems to run on a good enough basis of activity for current mods. And for those that lose activity it seems to take their position as a mod.

So at current time, you guys are doing well imply because you're helping and enforcing what's going on. There have been near problematic cases, but a lot of the time the worst abusage is for jokes. And really this site is all about that. Until you become unhelpful or inactive which will take a while and possibly a LONG while, you're good and doing good.

actually, i was genuinely interested in this, ive been a victom of rampant mod abuse and stuff, which is probably what made me a generous mod afterwords
