Re: The State of Gen Serious
Yom, focus on your coding. Leave it to the rest of the FH crew to get this place popular again. Games will help, but we can't stop there. And that's where the rest of us do our job. Also, I love the colour scheme of this site. It really is comfortable. And it fits. Can you even imagine this site in white? Ew...

Once I figure out CSS, I can make alternate themes. BBS-retro style! Acid Trip!

I'll stick with traditional, thank you. But yeah, some people might like that. Like Res.

Re: The State of Gen Serious
I've studied ergonomy and we had a couple of classes on colors and their influence on people comfort, mood, productivity. It's true that this site color design isn't half bad, dark blue is comfortable for eyes. I think that even possibility of adjusting the site design to ones preferences would be a cool and attractive thing. I thought more about something more like warm welcome. The best colors are light brown or darkened orange / red, green pastel and light blue. Blue is very relaxing, green is most comfortable for eyes and orange gives most warm but not disturbing for sight apperance. First thing that came to my mind was like old papper or light wood design, it's often used at many board RPG sites and forums. For examples look at olors used in company boss rooms, hospitals or windows standard wallpappers. In fact, none of these are random.

It's actually possible to create a simple 'select board theme' here. I just need to figure out just HOW it's done. There's a prototype 'new theme' but it was abandoned halfway through. Also, I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts about this site's layout. What needs to be changed? What's clunky and has to go? What's just utterly useless and HAS to go?

Well, there's a tone of broken links under "Home" at the top left.

I think our homepage is so flawed in so many ways and has so much potential that I just want to go in there and change it up myself

Doesn't have to stay on topic. It's not serious. It's non-spam.

Re: The State of Gen Serious
I suppose it would, even if it was in serious... (-_-)" Let's say it loud and clear, this kinds of forums aren't really made for all-serious people, since serious people don't have the time for such silly matters as writing in non-specific-theme forums. Because if something is for everything, then in reality - it's for nothing. END.

I kinda wanted FH to be a literal 'home away from home', where you could pursue your vocation, dream or project, no matter what it was.

Because if something is for everything, then in reality - it's for nothing. END. I see some flaws in this... Forums function as an organism with different parts dedicated to different things. The serious board is dedicated to serious discussion. If someone were entirely serious, they just wouldn't stray from that part. Though, there wouldn't be such thing as an entirely serious person either. An entirely serious person would quickly realize the futility of their existence in the grand scheme of things, realize that anything and everything they do has no effect on the grand scheme of the inevitable end of life itself, and promptly end their life without a second thought. Guess that depends on your definition of "serious" though. I tend to look at "serious" people as people who don't take anything with a grain of salt. Trust me, the key to happiness is not to be serious about everything. Even if you enjoy being serious all the time (which may or may not be a contradicting statement, again it would depend on your definition of serious) the interaction with other people and conflicts of opinion would (and again, assuming a "serious" person is someone who takes everything seriously) would become an emotional wreck. Let's look at this theoretically. There's a couple ways we could get around this. (Only looking at the definition of a serious person being someone who takes everything seriously, of course. The person described in the first sentence of this paragraph is fundamentally flawed and lacks a clear definition.) We should attribute certain traits to this person. Traits we can't apply are things that directly affect that persons reactions. Such as lack of emotions, which would be too far away for this argument. Or dampened/heightened emotions. Which we can't study because we wouldn't know if this person had any basis for comparison. Or how long a basis of comparison would last. For example, extremely small emotional reaction may be perceived as much larger to the person without any other comparison. Like it goes on a percentage system, rather than a direct value. Since attaching a direct value to emotional scaling would be impossible, I feel this is probably the best way to look at it. So take our person that takes everything seriously, and say he has no real knowledge of anything. Throw him into the wilderness so he has no interaction with other people. In fact, just say there are no other people. He would be little more than an animal fighting for survival. Which, I suppose, would mean that this person isn't an emotional wreck. So theoretically it's possible. But that's not really a person. That's an animal who happens to be human. Would you like to define "person" for me so I can continue on these thoughts? Since I feel I'd make it overly complicated for myself and don't care enough to write more.
