Post Schrodinger's cat
To a nuts for brains scientist schrodinger's cat is an experiment with an unknown outcome until you open the box. to them while the cat is in the box it is both living and dead because it can't be determined either way.

WRONG.

There is a clear answer as to the state of the cat at all times while it is in the box.

it has to do with Logic, Probability, and the observer's Knowledge of the actors.

Schrodinger obviously had little knowledge of the actors, so he could not fathom the probability or logic of his experiment.

The actors:
A Box: a lifeless object made of thick paper or plastic (his experiment used paper/cardboard)
Deadly Poison: it kills things pricked by it or things that eat it.
A Cat: a living feline.

So how do we know the state of the cat if we can't see inside the box?

That's the wrong question. that question alone proves that Schrodinger didn't understand his subject.

The answer; first we must find the actor that we can predict or perform probability on.

the box: it's either moving or not moving based on the cat, if the box is moving then this is one sign the cat is alive, but that forgets about the nature of the cat.

the poison: it's either used or unused, there is no way to measure this by it's own actions.

The Cat: the cat is our biggest actor that provides us the most ability to predict and perform probability on.

Cats, that was the answer. If Schrodinger understood cats he would see why his experiment was flawed and did not produce the outcome he intended.

It's true now, cats like boxes. and it can be predicted that the cat might take a nap in said box. however a nap would mean relatively no motion or sound emulated through the box. this means that although the box could tell us weather the cat is moving the box can;t account for a sleeping cat. According to the box, if the cat takes a nap then the cat is dead because of a lack of motion. However we know this is not true.

the poison, cats have an interest in new things, so it depends on the state of the poison
1: if the poison is a gas then the nature of the cat having to breath tells us it it did breathe then it is in the state "Poisoned - Going to die within the time limit prescribed by that poison."
2: if the poison was in a needle, the cat will be curious if not accidentally pricked by it, if curious the cat will sniff it as per nature and will sniff it too closely when it can't understand the smell and get pricked, meaning either way the cat will be pricked by the needle due to the nature of the cat and will be in the state "Poisoned - Going to die within the time limit prescribed by that poison.", however we can know if the cat has been poisoned because if it gets pricked by the needle it will make pained meows. therefore sound is the cue that tells us weather or not the cat has been pricked by the needle.
3: if the poison was in a bit of food, the cat will be dead at meal time, if it finds no way out of the box it will eat whats available though it knows it doesn't smell right, hunger overpowers clear thinking.

from this alone we can know the state of the cat if we are observant and know what signs to look for and at what time.

Further: if the poison is in an inedible pellet (needs to be touched) that won't be perceived as food the cat will touch it to play or while it moves around in the box and will be dead.

if the poison were both in a state that it needs to be triggered by the cat trying to escape the box, and did not attract the cat in any way and was not painful suck as a prick of a needle: in this case we can still know the state of the cat at meal time because it will meow at mealtime if it's alive and can't get out. it will also meow at night if left secluded and alone during it's most active time. a lack of meowing at these times means you have a dead cat and you're a cat killer and animal abuser.

Schrodinger's cat is not a conundrum, many scientist use it as a conundrum to explain their hypotheses and how their experiment runs based off of what they perceive to be an instance where there is no way to record or know the outcome. The answer to those people is the same as Schrodinger's cat, if that is the case then it means you don't understand the actors in your theory or experiment and thus can't derive an opinion about it and your experiment will have flaws that you did not perceive which are core flaws and invalidate it.

Schrodinger's cat was an invalid proposed experiment because at any given point there will always be a definitive answer to the state of the cat based on KNOWLEDGE of the cat.

you could even use probability to average the amount of time the average cat will spend trapped in a box before it tries to escape and starts meowing.

there are lots of ways to find out the state of the cat, including tapping the box and listening to see if the cat moves. or simply calling the cat's name or using an exterior force like cooking the cats favorite food or playing with it's favorite toy. this will illicit a response from the cat even while it's in the box if it is alive.

Post Re: Schrodinger's cat
Schrodinger actually made the famous cat thought experiment as a way of illustrating how irrational the thinking of some of the leading ideas of quantum mechanics are (or at least how many physicists were treating them).

He didn't himself believe the cat was simultaneously alive and dead until observed, he was more or less poking fun at quantum physicists who would believe a particle, for instance, was in two states until observed, or that a photon would take all possible routes around or through a particle or substance when there was equal probability, etc. He was pointing out this is absurd when applied on a macro scale.

However, despite it being a criticism of quantum physics, turned out quantum physicists liked it so much they many started using it as a good way to illustrate the rather difficult concept of quantum superposition. Einstein himself liked it much, and actually got the point, and wrote to him saying, "You are the only contemporary physicist, besides Laue, who sees that one cannot get around the assumption of reality, if only one is honest. Most of them simply do not see what sort of risky game they are playing with reality—reality as something independent of what is experimentally established."

However, I'll also note that you seem to have missed that this was a thought experiment, not a real experiment that he conducted, and also seem to not be familiar with the actual model he presented which would make all your considerations irrelevant:
Quote:
"One can even set up quite ridiculous cases. A cat is penned up in a steel chamber, along with the following device (which must be secured against direct interference by the cat): in a Geiger counter, there is a tiny bit of radioactive substance, so small, that perhaps in the course of the hour one of the atoms decays, but also, with equal probability, perhaps none; if it happens, the counter tube discharges and through a relay releases a hammer that shatters a small flask of hydrocyanic acid. If one has left this entire system to itself for an hour, one would say that the cat still lives if meanwhile no atom has decayed. The first atomic decay would have poisoned it. The psi-function of the entire system would express this by having in it the living and dead cat (pardon the expression) mixed or smeared out in equal parts."

Note as well that the key is not seeing the cat with the eyes, but "observing", and observation includes all types of possible perception, even indirect (thus, hearing the cat meow, seeing a box move, smelling decaying body, measuring heat signatures, etc are all forms of observation). Regardless, he set up a system where it would be impossible to know whether the cat was dead or not without observing the cat, as that fact was based not on the actions of the cat or any other factor other than atomic decay (and atomic decay is one of the quantum concepts for which this kind of thinking was applied). Again though, he was illustrating a flaw in the way people thought about such matters in that they didn't distinguish between the reality of the matter and what can be experimentally proven.

Post Re: Schrodinger's cat
The point of Schrodinger's cat was to demonstrate the absurd conditions that would result if the present interpretation of quantum mechanics were taken to its logical conclusion. It was a call for a better interpretation that would not result in paradoxes. There's a good SMBC comic that sums this up rather nicely.

Schrodinger's cat can only lives as a thought experiment. once you drag it to real world the hypothesis are break. In real world we have tons of observation method to a cat's dead or alive, there is no system that can isolate all observation methon to a cat. It shows the lackness of observation method on quantum level more then a cat level.
