Global Economy Thread
That's right, a discussion to keep track of the economy which is more than a mere problem actually.
I can't have much of an elaborated opinion since I didn't pay much attention until now but here are my 2cents: I don't feel like Quebec or Canada is truly at risk by itself. Our economy isn't doing nearly as bad our southern neighbors. However I get the feeling that if the US crumble, the other countries will just start falling like dominos one after the other in a huge chain reaction to the sudden crash of outside commerce.
Now I remember not so long ago ecologists saying that Economy was all right and that we should hinder it...

Re: Global Economy Thread
Thats true if the US economy crumbles other countries will feel the effect, since Wall Street is a global stock market, so a lot of companies in other countries will get hit bad

Re: Global Economy Thread
If the US economy falls, the effects will ripple throughout the world. A collapse will cause multiple stock market crashes in the world. And that won't be a pretty sight

Re: Global Economy Thread
1: Aimed at the general. The effects are already being felt outside the U.S. France's, Japan's, and Mexico's economies are all all the brink, Japan doing the best of the 3. France and Mexico are actually about to collapse. Mexico's economy is supposed to collapse by 2012, but we'll see.
2. This is aimed directly at kain, and has two parts. Kain, no matter how much you wish otherwise, Quebeck is STILL part of Canada. That's like myself supporting the succession of Texas movement. It's a stupid idea, even if we are an economic powerhouse on our own.
Also, Canada would be the one to feel our economic troubles the most(outside of countries we keep afloat, I'm lookin at you Pakistan). I mean, it's economic boost was purely from American contracts, especially in the military ones. With Obama's military cutbacks, that's gonna stop. And all private contracts, well, they're endin if the economy collapses completely(and some are already ending).
So yeah, America is the center of global comerse, as arrogant as it seems. We ARE the consumer economy, and nations such as China, Canada, Japan, Mexico, etc etc, will feel the greatest pains from the end of U.S. purchase power.
And I didn't spell check, live with it.

Re: Global Economy Thread
The pound is heavily relliant on the dollar if the dollar falls...
Anyway, you could solve the problem. By heavily reducing expenditure. I would suggest destroying the NHS in England(and indeed any form of socialised healthcare). Remove Quango's in general. Government projects to be reduced to none. The one thing you really don't need during a weak economic time is spending billions in a culture boost. Furthermore, destroying trade unions or at least heavily relieving their power would most likely lead to increase in employment. Lower the minimium wage, which would also increase in employment. Lower corp tax.Bring troops home from Afghanistan lower expenditure in weapons and such but keep nuclear weapons.Heavily cripple welfare.
There is a lot more you could do but these are just some of the stuff that countries could do.The one thing countries shouldn't do is try to artifically inflate the market by putting money into transport and such. It either fails amazingly and leads to a worse economy or it creates an artifical boom. Then what started 2 years ago will happen again for the exact same reasons.
Also remove all GSE's
