| Post subject: | The Founders and Revolutionaries of Metal |
Alright you metal heads, my radio show this Saturday will be covering the big influences, legends, revolutionaries of Metal. Of course there is the Big Three, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden. But who else do you guys think has had exceptional influence on metal or has sparked/revolutionized sub-genres. A few I think of in this category: Metallica, Slayer and Death, Motorhead, Ozzy, Anthrax, maybe Cannibal Corpse or something if the case can be made and a few others my co-host and I have been tossing around. We are thinking of guys that mark turning points or have lead to changes or creation of new sub-genres, or are simply an influence over a whole lot of bands. So, Go, suggest, tell why they deserve a spotlight and what they have done. |

Well, the original Heavy Metal band was Black Sabbath. That doesn't really originate the sound or anything, but they were the first LABELED Heavy Metal Band. The sounds of metal were being morphed before then, though, with Led Zeppelin, Cream and Purple Cheer. But the first OFFICIAL Heavy Metal band was Black Sabbath, and so it is written. As for influential bands in the metal genre. Well, fuck, that all depends on how you view the evolution of Metal. If you find Death Metal to be a major part of the metal evolution, than Possessed is the band for you. The first real Death Metal band. and to all you Eurofags, Possessed is an AMERICAN band. Since I listen to a shit load of death metal and death metal branches, I'd have to find Possessed as one of the most influential bands in the metal genre (even though I don't really listen to them). I also find System of a Down to be a big influence just to me. It's hard to tie their sound to anything else, and their music is so ecstatic I fuckin' love it. A few of MetalHeads on this site seem to hate SOAD, but I fuckin' love them for their originality and fuckin' weird ass sound. So I'll definitely put them as a revolutionary. So I covered founders (Led, Sabbath, etc.) and some revolutionaries (Possessed and SOAD). |

Death should also be noted as one of the main founders of Death Metal! Just...play Crystal Mountain  Shit, if we're going down that route we could also cite Cynic as the founders of Technical Jazz fusion. They sound cool, but who the fuck cares? (I do, Cynic rules. But still.) |

I thought death wasn't really a founder of death metal, but a pioneer. In that case, even bands like morbid angel, exodus and celctic frost should be included. and cynic is just fucking weird awesome, but still weird and awesome...yeah. |

Uhh... Led Zeppelin released their first album the same year Black Sabbath did. |

Led Zeppelin's s/t came out in 69. Black Sabbath's s/t came out in 70. |
