 Cool Subject Line Hi, I'm here for stuff and things.
Whenever I join a forum it's usually because I already know most of the people on there, so I never end up using an introduction board. So I don't know what people normally put here. But I'm here because apparently a bunch of development stuff happens on this site, and I was looking for a chance to practice my programming or something. I don't know, even if I don't get a chance at that I might just hang around cause I'm bored. We'll just see where it goes. Uhh, thanks for... reading? I don't fucking know. FIN.

If you were a loli, what would be the first thing that comes to mind? Nope. I don't think I have enough experience to give an adequately educated answer, and probably won't until I've tried everything. No clue. Dunno. Probably something bad. When things stack they tend to crash eventually. I've never seen a computer that handles infinites well. If I were to become a loli or if I was born one? I think we can safely say my experience with this is limited. I'm looking for a chance to broaden my horizons and stretch my legs a bit more before jumping into university for this. Besides, it's fun as hell to program. Even if it's just tedious stuff. But honestly I've been working on more preliminary stuff until now. Mostly just math and shit. So I'm desperate for something to do, and to test myself.

first off. the following represents comments:

comments are ignored by the compiler.
your project consists so far of 1) a package. This is basically a folder full of different stuff
2) a class. This is where all code goes.
3) a main method. This is where I want you to code.
No need to bother with what a class is yet. The main method is the first thing you should pay attention to. This is what is called when you test the application.
as you may have noticed, there are braces or curly brackets... these ones { }
within these braces you put all your code you want to be executed in the main method.
One example would be the notorious "hello world" message. To make the console say "hello world" you do the following:
Code: System.out.println("hello world");
The main method now looks like this:
Code: public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("hello world");
}
what "public static void" means, we'll have to discuss later once you've learned the basics.
press F6 or "run" and check the output window at the bottom. It should say
run:
hello world
BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 0 seconds)
Next thing i want you to do is to create a variable. a variable is stored data. When creating a variable, you first need to tell it what kind of data you want stored. Is it a whole number (integer) a floating number (float), etc?
so when creating a variable you tell it:
type name;
for example
Code: int myFirstVariable;
int stands for integer, meaning your variable will store a number that is for example ..., −5, −4, −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...
let's give myFirstVariable a value.
Code: myFirstVariable = 5;
your variable now is the number 5.
let's create another integer and give it a value instantly.
Ok, so you have 2 variables.
Let us make another integer and make give it the same value as the first one.
Code: int wat = myFirstVariable;
wat and myFirstVariable now have the same number.
Let us write them in the output window.
To include a variable in a println call, you add a + and the variable name after the "" in the println parenthesis, like this:
Code: System.out.println("hello world. I am the number " + aids);
you can add more "" and variable in the println call too. like this:
Code: System.out.println("hello world. I am the number " + aids + " and I have a " + myFirstVariable + " year old hidden in my basement.");
note that you can also add, substract, divide, multiply your variables with each other like this:
Code: System.out.println("Your lucky number is: " + (myFirstVariable + aids / wat) );
however, keep in mind that integers will not be divided correctly sometimes since they are full numbers without commas.
If you want commas, use float or double.
now, play around with the following variables:
int, long, float, double, byte
and combine them with:
+, -, *, /, % (modulo)
also try using the following print functions and spot the difference:
System.out.println();
System.out.print();

Re: Cool Subject Line I do have a bit of experience with Java, so I'm not entirely new to that. But I stopped working on it fairly early due to it being extremely technical and already having a heavy course load so I didn't have a lot of free time. Ill work on that and refresh my memory later, though. And I would probably be freaking out. Especially if my bones and flesh are reforming because that would fucking hurt. Then I would calm down, think about how fucked my life will be for the next while, freak out again, go home, and try to figure things out in the calm of my home. Then I would grope myself.
