there are certain peoples who have reasons to vote for corrupt and malicious self-serving politicians, for illegal immigrants it's not just the promise of a free ride, it's also their relatives who are not illegal who see the candidate as a mirror of the atmosphere in their home country (which they miss). they fail to remember that by instating that familiarity they are doing away with the very thing that this country had that made it worth leaving their own country to get there.

To be honest the system itself isn't perfect, but the example good Joshex gives is one of how the parties ultimately break the system.
I feel like if you remove the political parties, the system would be less corrupt and would be much more stable in the sense that people in positions of power don't need to vote the same way as their party all the time.

But it would lead to voting being more complicated and such. But generally I'd think there would be more improvements overall.

Hell even George Washington said that political parties are bad for democracy in his farewell address.
