It's not uncommon for translators to swap out anything that might have greater religious connotations in the West when bringing them over. Sometimes they don't, but for dragon ball, since that's really not part of the point and it's just a general audiance fight things show, they did. Nintendo is famous for doing such with a lot of games as well. Anyway... I've enjoyed Super more than I expected, but part of it is just the old format of nothing happening but you keep thinking something is about to happen and when it finally happens you are 20 episodes in so your like... well screw it I guess I'll keep going.

Huh, I didn't know that. So, how's DBZ Super working out for you? Did Namek explode yet? Is it just a remake with HD graphics or is there new plot?

Re: Dragon Ball Super
Super takes place a few months after the Buu saga and it is all new stuff. Seems to be Frieza saga quality in terms of plot and overall value since DBZ got worse after that.

Re: Dragon Ball Super
If you go into Super expecting Dragon Ball Z stuff, it delivers, so there's nothing to complain about.
And notable difference from GT is Super is based on the continuations of the story made by the original writer, whereas GT was based on a Fan Fic, and is usually considered non-canon.
Light kinda spoilers you'd know from just looking ahead at episode screenshots mostly:
But, essentially, they do the standard DBZ stuff. Enemies emerge, they figure out new powers that take them to new heights, they train, they fight, etc. Though, it does get it's name right as they do quickly up the game pretty far with the introduction of the gods, multiverse, and the "Super Dragon Balls". I have liked how they handle the god of Destruction storyline which isn't just a one and done saga deal, and they don't do the "well, they just figure out how to overcome a clearly hyper more powerful enemy by force of will!" because they don't, and it makes sense they don't. Actually, it makes all the stuff with the Grand and Supreme Kai's in the end of Z look pretty stupid. The challenges I've seen so far seem a lot less serious though, even though a few have that threat of all earth being destroyed and such.
Oh, and they bring back Freiza... because someone likes Freiza. And they reveal he could have been nearly unstoppable before if he wasn't so lazy and arrogant.
