Re: Avenged Sevenfold
They're not Nu Metal. They aren't very Metal at all really. I guess they qualify as the new line of pop metal. Bat Country was probably the best song they had, and mostly for the guitar and opening line.
Honestly though, how many metal bands do you hear saying "I'm not insane?" Metal likes talking about how we ARE insane (Black Sabbath's Paranoid, as the case in point, or Ozzie's Crazy Train, or Iron Maiden's Can I Play With Madness, or numerous others). Now, while it doesn't mean they are not, I still find it a fun point.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
They really aren't metal anymore. if you hear their first CD "Waking the Fallen" It's like a screaming nightmare, So it was Thrash Metal My least favorite one of their Cd's(Only listened to it once never again). Their next one "City of Evil" was the first one I bought only got it beacause Guitar Hero 2 had "Beast and the Harlot" on it, which is one of my favorite songs by them. "City of Evil" song #4 Bat Country, which was a song about a drugtrip in Las Vagas, <---(very Rock & Roll) put them in the rock catagory for that CD. Their third CD Was the self titled "Avenged Sevenfold" Where it moved into the "Pop Rock" genre as n0th1n put it. With songs like "Critical Acclaim" and "Gunslinger" which were rather patriotic songs. They had seemed to have found a meaning for writing songs and moved into a more emotion based rock and roll, writing on real events that had happened to members of the band. The fourth CD "Diamonds in the Rough" Was more of what they had done on the last CD "Avenged Sevenfold" sort of mixed with some of "City of Evil"s style and featured an Iron Maiden Tribute "Flash of the Blade" about a boy who's family was killed and how he spends his life seeking vengence.(Which in my opinion was done much better by Iron Maiden as it was their song) and another tribute "Walk" from a band I don't seem to be able to remember. It also included alternate versions of "Afterlife"(A song about how a deceased loved one tells his significant other to move on....I guess.) and "Almost Easy"(Which is about how a man abuses his significant other and convinces her it was her fault)<--- (WTF!)
Looking at this, I realize I can really ramble.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
We all know what Bat Country is about... it is a Line stolen from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, which was a movie entirely about tripping balls... "We can't stop here, THIS IS BAT COUNRTY!".

I don't think I've heard any Avenged Sevenfold...or maybe I have, if it's been on TV while I'm over at n0th1n's house, but this part of your commentary caught my eye. That's actually pretty common in abusive relationships, which is why it can be hard for the abused to leave said relationship. It's unfortunate that it happens, but that's life I guess. I'm assuming, judging from how you described it, that the song is trying to bring to light about how wrong it is, but if I'm wrong feel free to correct me (since I haven't heard it before). It's definitely an interesting topic to base a song on though.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
Here are the lyrics, decide for yourself.
Avenged Sevenfold- Almost Easy
GO!
I feel insane every single time I'm asked to compromise Cause I'm afraid I’m stuck in my ways, and that’s the way it stays So how long did I expect love to out weigh ignorance? Now that look on your face I may have forced the scale to tip
I'm not insane, I'm not insane I'm not insane, I’m not – not insane
(Mother) Come back to me, it's almost easy (Said it all) Come back again, it's almost easy
Shame pulses through my heart from the things I’ve done to you It’s hard to face, but the fact remains that this is nothing new I left you bound and tied with suicidal memories Selfish beneath the skin but deep inside I'm not insane
I'm not insane, I'm not insane I'm not insane, I'm not – not insane
(Mother) Come back to me, it's almost easy (Said it all) Come back again, it's almost easy (You'll learn your lesson) Come back to me, it's almost easy (But first you'll fall) Come back again, it's almost easy
Now that I’ve lost you it kills me to say (Hurts to say) I try to hold on as you slowly slip away I’m losing the fight, I treated you so wrong Now let me make it right (Make it all right)
I'm not insane, I'm not insane I'm not insane, I'm not – not insane
(Mother) Come back to me, it's almost easy (Said it all) Come back again, it's almost easy (You've learnt your lesson) Come back to me, it's almost easy (But still you fall) Come back again, it's almost easy
Knowing what it's about and reading the lyrics makes the music video make sense.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
Yeah, reading the lyrics make me feel like they're showing how wrong the abusive relationship is...kind of. Not sure really. Sounds cool though. I'm kind of interested in seeing the actual video if it's set up somewhat like a story-telling kind, so maybe I'll look for it sometime tomorrow.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
It's not a story telling kind... it's different, you would have to see it. If you want an interesting song look up "A Little Piece of Heaven" it doesn't have a video yet.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
Hmmm, I feel like you actually argued for why Avenged Sevenfold actually sucks alot. And Thrash metal doesn't have that much screaming, so if by "screaming nightmare" you meant they scream alot on the album, and thus you put them in Thrash metal, you are doing so on false pretenses.
And the video for that is mostly a bunch of people falling into hell or turning into monsters or some shit.
And you've heard them a few times rosie, on the radio maybe, but also with my friend yesterday they were playing alot of Avenged Sevenfold for a while.

Re: Avenged Sevenfold
Oh he was? Didn't know that was what they were playing. Though I think he might've mentioned that at some point. Don't remember. I didn't care too much for some of the things he was playing, which is why near the end of the ride I was trying to find some common ground with what music I had. Though that Spanish song he put on was pretty interesting.
And I just watched the video for myself today. Kind of interesting, though the video doesn't really make sense even while knowing the lyrics and whatnot. Maybe it's something I'd need to watch more than once to understand, but the video didn't catch my attention enough to make me want to do that.
