Lu Bu was so amazing and feared that legends were made about him while he was still alive. Unparalleled in all forms of martial arts (archery and horsemanship in particular), he was truly a fearsome sight on the battlefield. But he started drinking and became abusive towards his subordinates and subsequently was caught and executed by Cao Cao.

Which brings up the fact that Cao Cao was a damn fine leader himself. Interesting note: the english phrase "Speak of the Devil and he shall appear" carries some-what into the chinese language, only it's "Speak of Cao Cao, and he shall appear" (still holding the same meaning as the english phrase)

When Richard the Lionheart landed at Jafa, after releving the Garrison inside the city he personally scared back the MUCH larger Saracen army. That, and he was undefeated throughout the entire crusade, by an army much better equiped then the Chinese armies Lu Bu would have been fighting, and likley better motivated (Relgion is one hell of a motivator). Not only that, he was fighting Saladin, who was regonized as one of the best millatrey leaders EVER of the Muslim world, which had before the crusades almost anhilated the Byzantine empire, which had been for the time one of the strongest world powers.

I never said Lu Bu was a great leader, I was just expounding on his own personal combat statistics. As for being an actual leader, Lu Bu was quite a poor example.

Ah, now if we're going for personal combat, Murad the fourth was one badassed motherfucker. He could wrestle seven people at one, and appreanrtly lift a 60 kilogram mace with ease. He slaughtered lots of Persians :)

Lu Bu is most famous for his performance at Hu Lao Gate. Not only did he single-handedly slay over 1,000 enemy soldiers (killed by his own hands), he also dueled against Zhang Fei, Guan Yu, and Liu Bei at the same time. Liu Bei wasn't much of a fighter, but Zhang Fei was renouned for his strength and Guan Yu, to this very day, is considered a God of War in China. He fought all three of them to a draw.

...Do you know how long it would take to kill one thousand people in mele combat? Your arms would break off before that was done. I'm fairly sure the records are exargerated slightly. Also, while I was in Hong Kong for a couple of months, I sure as hell didn't see any Chinese people worshipping his ass.

:P Obviously such figures are probably exaggerated...but to kill so many people in combat for it to be said that he slayed over 1K people, he must have killed the fuck out of a lot of people. Let's not forget he was most infamous for his charges on the Red Hare. A cavalry unit could have a chance of racking up a lot of kills if the person on the horse is good enough.

Anyways, Lu Bu wasn't the one being worshiped, Guan Yu is. Next time you talk to someone you know from China (if you went there I'd assume you probably have contacts there) ask them about Guan Yu. I met a korean, a fucking KOREAN, who had a necklace with a small jar containing some ash in it. When asked what it was, he explained how it's the ashes of a God of War from China by the name of Guan Yu.

Ah, I misread, fair enough, I saw a statue of Guan Yu in a arcade I used to go to. That was about it though.

Napoleon will always be the greatest! Followed by Fredrick the great, then Skandeburg and John Hyundi.

I'm appalled of your underestimation of ancient chinese warfare. Just because you don't know a lot about it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Fun Fact: Cao Cao, when looking over a map of a province that was under contest, was heard to mutter the words chicken ribs. In China, such a phrase stands for something that really isn't worth much, but would be a large set-back if lost. While most of his advisers present had no idea what Cao Cao was talking about by saying chicken ribs, there was one man who got it. He proceeded to explain how the province Cao Cao was thinking over was like chicken ribs in the sense that you can make a fine broth out of the ribs, but it won't do much to satisfy you.

Cao Cao, enraged by the fact that one of his advisers was clever enough to know what he was talking about, promptly had the adviser executed. :black
