Seems to me like they kinda like them in many ways. They don't eat them, after all. Nor allow them to be farm animals on their Holy Soil (So the farmers put them on concrete instead!)
But yea, pigs are considered among the unclean animals. Various reasons for this, some of which has to do with what the pigs eat.

Well, Hanzo made the most accurate statement.
But, here's another reason: Pork and many meats like it had bacteria in it that couldn't be taken out. So, the religious leaders decided to say that God demanded that they don't eat it. Really, it was to save lives.
Same thing with piercings. Those would cause infections that could kill you, so you can't mark your body.

Re: Why do jews and muslims hate pigs?
Lime, I think just posting someones quotes over and over without saying anything yourself is pushing the rules in No Spam.
In any case, you could say that, and granted there have been, and still are actually, alot of problems resulting from eating pork products as they are in fact so close to humans that their diseases easily carry over to us and such. Or God could very well have told them not to do all these things because He knew it would help keep them healthier and live longer, just like He told them He would help them do and He said would happen if they followed His commands. And hell, it accomplishes some other goals as well.
Seriously though, you have just as much proof of either, more of the latter since its the given account and thats really ALL you have to go on. That they knew there was bacteria specifically as a problem and the scientific reasonings behind all this is highly unlikely as the technology used to discover such things wasn't first around until a couple thousand years later, though theoretically they could have seen a connection between eating certain things and a greater tendency for certain kinds of sickness and death. Again though, that all falls under pure speculation with no evidence of any kind, nor testimony, to attribute it too. Interestingly though, things that wise men advised, or 'the ways of the elders' was often marked off as just that since these men were greatly respected on their own account without the need to claim God said to do anything, though I suppose you could claim that such a backing would give even greater weight to the advice.
