Okay, so you've figured out what layers are, and heck, you've already started making primitive 'comic books' of Flashy goodness. That or you're still fapping to Eggman's nudes. I don't care - but as promised, here it is...
Flash lessons to get your toes wet. PART 2
Of sounds, bells and whistles.
What you'll learn.
1) Sounds.
2) BGM.
3) Button-based sounds.
4) Sleeping in class.
So far you've got a great flash going, but by now, you'll be asking yourself 'Is making a silent movie worth it?'.
No, idiot. It's not. Get your act together, cause we'll be MAKING SOME NOISE UP IN THAT MOTHERFUCKER.
Sounds.
From the bips and boops achieved by pressing buttons to music on demand, you've all seen Flash games belt out tunes and side-stepping copyright laws as if by magic. It would make a great addition to a 'silent comic', right? How then, O evil azn genius with protruding buck-teeth and prans to rure the worrd, will I do this, you ask?
Right then!. Listen up because you might fuck yourself over if you don't get your act together!.
First, we start off with something simple. BGM!
Remember the spinning stick keyframe series from the first part of this series?. Good.
It looked like this.
[/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--]
Now, up until now, it's been spinning there with no musical accompaniment, right? We're going to change that.
SteaUH I MEAN "Acquire" the mp3 you want to serve as the musical accompaniment. Great, now, you'll have to 'import' it to your flash for it to be useable. In case you don't know how, all you gotta do is click 'File' in the control menu on top, and scroll down to Import, and confirm that you want to 'Import to Library.'
Okay, that's done?. No? YOU SUCK.
Now, make a new layer in your flash.
Done? It should look something like this.
[]
[/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--]
Now add some frames to the new layer until it looks like this.
[_______________________________________]
[/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--]
Now, click any frame in your newly-created layer and then look to the right. Notice the 'library panel' you're staring at?. Note the 'properties tab' right next to it. Click it.
Under the >Label category, you'll notice the >'Sounds' label. That's what you want. Right now, you'll notice that the sound has been set to 'none'. You don't want that, right?. Time to fix that.
Click the 'None' in there for a drop-down menu. If you've successfully imported an MP3, you'll see it here now. Select the MP3 you want.
Good, now you'll notice that the flash layer has taken a sudden, radical change.
[--/\//\/\/\///\\\//\/\\/\/\/\/\//\/\/\//\/--------]
[/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--][/][|][\][--]
What does that mean? It means that the sound byte you choose to play will now loop along with the flash. What if you put in a longer file?. Hah, it means the file will loop into itself, causing infinite sound.
Don't want that? We move on to the next function
Sounds from a button!.
Remember how we set up the button with different states for Untouched, Rolled over and Pressed down?.
It looked something like this in 'edit button mode'.
[O][O][O]_
Now, we whip up a new layer!. Similar to what we did before, but we're gonna do this a little differently.
Add keyframes to the new layer.

Depending on where you want the sounds to blast forth, you have a choice to make. Want the tunes to blast forth when you hover your mouse over the button? You click the

And use the properties panel to set up what sound you want played, just like you did for the spinning stick thing. If you want the sounds to activate on pressing the button, you do the same thing you did just now, but to

Now press the back button to get outta there!.

Well, now you won't have to worry about your flash ending up deadsided because it was a silent film. Just remember, going too far will turn your flash into a fat man!.
